Yemen Is At War With Saudi Arabia

So much ITZ going on, the media doesn’t even try to cover it all:

The Yemeni army and popular forces hit a strategic military air base in Asir province in Southern Saaudi Arabia with Scud missiles, killing tens of high-ranking Saudi officers and commanders and destroying over two dozen F-15 fighter jets and Apache helicopters.

At least 66 high-ranking Saudi army officers, including two senior commanders, were killed when the Yemeni missiles hit Khamis Mushait air base in Asir province in retaliation for the kingdom’s aggression against their nation.

The Yemeni forces also destroyed 17 F-15 fighter planes and 9 Apache helicopters.

About 300 Saudi officers were also injured in the Yemeni missile attack on Khamis Mushait air base.

More in this article:

Saudi warplanes bombed targets in the Yemeni capital Sana’a on Thursday after Houthi rebels fired a Scud missile at an airbase across the border in a sudden escalation of a war that is taking a mounting toll on civilians.

Reports from Sana’a said airstrikes targeted missile launchers after a Scud impacted near Khamis Mushayt, close to a major Saudi air force base. The UN deputy secretary general, Jan Eliasson, said there was a “desperate need” to end the conflict and hoped peace talks could resume by the end of the month.

Seven months of strikes by the Saudi-led coalition and fighting on the ground have killed 5,300 Yemenis including at least 2,400 civilians, according to the WHO. The coalition is fighting the Iran-backed Houthis to drive them from Sana’a and other areas they captured last year, and to restore the internationally recognised president, Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

The Saudis better watch out. Historically, if one side is allied with us, we’ll overthrow them, have them killed, and then install dangerous radicals who will create permanent instability.

You almost wonder if this isn’t the enviro-nuts in the Obama administration trying to reduce the availability of oil by making the whole area a tinderbox. If they couldn’t get Kyoto, they can at least make the Mideast so chaotic that oil prices would rise and usage would drop dramatically.

The irony is, as chaos increases the rabbits only seal their doom.

My SWAG is this is all about the price of oil. It seemed to me that when Russia started kicking ISIS around the local price of gasoline dropped substantially. Markets loathe uncertainty, and Russia going active clicked a lot of speculation into near-certainty. The House of Saud doing this looks more like forcing prices back into their desired (or more probably required at this point) price range.

Back in the very late 1970s, there was a movie about the oil business. One of the most memorable lines was between two Americans, one of whom said: “you idiot, *we’re* the Arabs.” Sure wish I could remember the title, I’d like to see it again.
