r/K is even visible within the leadership of the Catholic Church:
This came shortly after the pope said that capitalism cut against God, and that God would punish “slave drivers of our days” supposedly exploiting workers, adding, “The flow of capital cannot decide the flow of people…”
Next, Pope Francis infamously lectured members of Congress about immigration policy that same month, bashed capitalism, and then completely ignored the issue of abortion while speaking before Democrats who see partial-birth abortion as a sacrament…
Pope Francis has suggested it is acceptable to use artificial contraception methods in countries affected by the Zika virus.
“Avoiding pregnancy is not an absolute evil,” he told reporters en route to Rome following his five-day trip to Mexico.
This Pope is a good example of the r-strategy – openness to out-group interests, openness to promiscuous sexual activity with low rearing urges, openness to hedonistic avoidance of responsibility, hostility to K-strategists, and desire for free and equal provisioning of resources to all.
The problem the K-strategy has is that it is designed to compete in an aggressive environment, where competition is absolutely necessary. The r-strategy is designed to compete for social standing while avoiding conflict in an environment where competition is not necessary. Whenever peace reigns, rabbits are just designed to navigate that social hierarchy through political maneuvering.
Until resources run out, it is very difficult for K-strategists to override their own behavioral programming, and begin using underhanded political maneuvering to even the playing field with the rabbits. Until that hurdle is crossed, we may be cursed with the cycles of civilization, constantly rebounding between periods of greatness and ascension, and periods of decadence and decline.

are you sure he isn’t just pandering to the left to avoid the issue of pedophilia? it’s a great distraction

“using underhanded political maneuvering”
It’s extremely distasteful. I could never bring myself to it even when all those around me would say, “Grow up. Everybody does it. It’s the only way to get ahead.” They were correct, of course. Now, thanks to you, I know why.
Not that I would change any of my choices, but I’m really pissed off.
“cycles of civilization, constantly rebounding between periods of greatness and ascension, and periods of decadence and decline”
Unlikely. When Rome fell, there were high IQ “barbars” invading it, but now Europe is occupied by low IQ muslims and blacks. It’s unlikely that once whites are gone, there will be any greatness again in Europe. Richard Lynn is most likely right to think that there will be last “islands” of western civilization in eastern Europe, Russia and Israel for some time, and of course northeast asians will do their best to sustain technology. But their birth rates aren’t great either, while muslims have what, 5 children per woman?
I recommend “Understanding Human History” by Michael H. Hart to get an understanding of why some civilizations were greater than others, and how that came to be (hint: genetics and intelligence play a large part).
When Rome fell there were more aggressive Barbarians invading. They were not necessarily higher IQ. IQ’s drift as the population self selects for or against higher IQ. Western Europe for other reasons selected for higher IQ. It is partly tied to K reproductive strategies, and ironically probably driven in part by elements of old Roman law. A ban on cousin marriage is probably a lasting genetic gift from Roman.
I agree that the current invaders of Europe are of lower IQ and will bring down the average, and probably through mixing will make it so all are towards the average, rather than two distinctive groups.
What do you mean by “northeast” asians? Like, japan and korea?
AC some thought should be put into looking at a culture or a nation and seeing how r or K it is based on your breakout on the description page.
r/K as defined in brief in the r/K selection Theory page on this site says that r (rabbit) is docility, promiscuous, early moms, early sexualization and no loyalty to your in group. K (wolf) are competitive, monogamous, highly-invested 2 parents, mating when mature and intense in-group loyalty.
How would Christianity stack up? it varies a little, and I think some of the r/k points are binary (either the culture is monogamous or not) others are not so (aggressive, but how much, or in what way?)
Christians in general, they are docile, monogamous, 2 parents, mating when married (not nesc. when mature some groups marry in mid to late teens), and group loyalty is funny. The problem with group loyalty is that some define the group as all humans (Catholics for one), and others as their faith profession(all Lutherans, or all Baptists, etc), and still others as only their local church. This “size of group” then infects how they treat in and out group members. So being binary, say 3 out of 5 towards K, and leaning to almost 4.
The grouping issue comes together over characteristics. It is right in the sense of equality to see all humans as part of the same group deserving a right to be a live absent bad behavior. But that doesn’t mean that every person is part of my group (shared common beliefs). The problem is that in our minds we project upon others both in and out group of us the idea that they are ‘just like me.’ and that causes problems.
How does that fit with the current Pope? and to some extent Catholic teaching? Well nobody is out group because all are human – although if it was thought about some are outside the group. But that thought never is picked up. Combined with the non-violence that has been accepted as the highest virtue in the West since 1945, it creates a bold acceptance of r thinking even among those who are more generally K because although 3 out of 5 are K, the first one – docility and the last, everyone is in the group – out way the other 3.
