If you believe the studies showing association between long-form DRD4 polymorphs and migration, then you should conclude that r-strategists are programmed to be the migrators. They seek out free resource availability, and flee from the violence of K-selection. K-strategists are the fighters. They stay put and drive out anyone they can, as resources constrict.
During the transition from r to K there will be an initial period when inherently r areas begin to see resource restriction (due to hedonistic urges and poor productivity), while fundamentally K areas continue to see relative resource abundance. This means as r turns to K, you will first see a migration of r’s into these inherently K areas. Initially the moral decay produced by resource abundance in these fundamentally K areas will allow this, but as the transition from r to K progresses, that will change.
We are presently seeing this firsthand.
Both Greece and Macedonia have seen an unprecedented wave of migrants this year. More than 160,000 have arrived so far in Greece… Some 45,000 crossed through Macedonia over the past two months.
Few, if any, want to remain in Greece, which is in the grip of a financial crisis, or impoverished Macedonia. Most of the migrants who enter from Greece want to head straight to Macedonia’s northern border and then north through Serbia and Hungary on their way to more prosperous EU countries such as Germany, the Netherlands or Sweden…
So far this year, some 110,000 migrants have been rescued off Libya and brought to southern Italian ports.
As happens in K-selection, people begin to adopt an “everyone for themselves” attitude, which is itself, contagious.
Thousands of migrants stormed across Macedonia’s border on Saturday, overwhelming security forces who threw stun grenades and lashed out with batons before apparently abandoning a bid to stem their flow through the Balkans to western Europe.
Some had spent days in the open with little or no food or water after Macedonia on Thursday declared a state of emergency and sealed its borders to migrants, many of them refugees from war in Syria and other conflicts in the Middle East…
There was no official word from the government, but the level of organization suggested authorities had opted to move the migrants on as quickly as possibly, having tried and failed to keep them out with razor wire, teargas and stun grenades.
That, in turn will morph into in-grouping, out-grouping, and a quiet pleasure at screwing others for the benefit of your own. Here, the migrants are only being hustled through Macedonia because Macedonians see that those the migrants are moving toward are enemies. Given that, killing the migrants is not worth the trouble.
… But this has outraged the European Union Commission which is livid that several Central & Eastern European countries don’t want Syrian refugees who are Muslims. The governments of Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Bulgaria are firmly against the mandatory relocation of 40,000 mainly Muslim Syrians from Italy and Greece, one of the reasons the plan failed last month…
Recent government declarations about the number of refugees they are willing to take in lag considerably behind the European Commission’s suggestions to relocate 40,000 people, nearly all Muslims.
If the governments in Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltic region have their say, they will be taking in Christian refugees. “After all, we are a country belonging to Christian culture,” Margus Tsahkna, the conservative minister of social affairs in Estonia, said recently.
Great rundown at the link on the in-grouping and Muslim out-grouping going on in the less prosperous Eastern European countries.
As Vox highlighted, Italy and Greece have begun quietly lancing and sinking migrant boats.
Obviously if countries feel they are getting a raw deal relative to other countries, that will ignite a K-selected competitiveness, and it is that competitiveness which will do what it takes to win. It is worth noting the fuse is being lit on Italian and Greek competitiveness just as resource restriction is kicking in, and making their new Muslim guests competitive, aggressive, and prone to out-grouping as well.
It is impossible to imagine how historic this period we are entering is. Everything is gauged toward maximum chaos, both in the US and Europe.
Apocalypse cometh™
Interesting. I wonder how much r/K has driven the huge influx of Californians into places like Colorado and Texas in the last few years. I’m sure both of those states seem resource abundant by comparison to all but the very rich (at least post-2008).
