A study finds that more than 2.4 million Venezuelans resort to eating garbage to survive, as video of this phenomenon surfaces – Venezuelans patiently waiting for markets to throw away their rotted produce and dig for anything remotely edible.
The video, published by the opposition website Dolar Today, shows throngs of people waiting behind markets for the daily refuse to be released. Once out, those waiting – many of them mothers who have no other recourse to feed their children – begin to dig through the items deemed too inedible to sell: half-rotted tomatoes, old lettuce, bags full of meat that butchers can no longer charge for:“Before you could get food in stores,” explains one woman interviewed in the video, “but now everything is a line. … You spend four hours on a line and get nothing, so we have to come here and see if we can find at least a little something to eat.” She adds with concern, “Without food, how are we going to survive?”
Another woman explains the process of finding food in commercial waste: “We wait for them to throw out the scraps, and then we eat.” Stating that families are struggling particularly hard to feed their children, she notes, “We are dying of hunger,” adding, “I know children who are dying of hunger.”
So you have 2.4 million Venezuelans. They are starving and malnourished, so their immune systems are not fully functional. Now they are digging through garbage, where rats, mice, and other animals are dropping feces and urine with pathogens, as they search for rotted food that is filled with bacteria, fungi, and even plant viruses (like some have speculated Ebola might be).
2.4 million potential disease incubators exposing themselves to all sorts of diseases daily in a nation with poor public health services, where medicines and healthcare are in short supply. This extreme situation is occurring in a tropical nation where even an idiot could grow a garden. And this whole scheme is going to go global at some point, spreading into colder climes where winters will actually preclude food production for up to six or seven months a year.
Now you see why I think the pandemic may end up being the cherry on our big Apocalypse sundae.
[…] Starving Venezuelans Rummage Through Garbage For Rotting Food […]
War, famine, pestilence, death.
A few years ago, I came across a few “conspiracy site” headlines and videos discussing the “impending food shortages in Venezuela.” These stories usually included footage of people lined up for groceries at large Venezuelan grocery stores. However, the shelves weren’t completely empty, the people lined up were usually on the obese side, and those same people looked relatively cheerful. Many were laughing and joking like the whole thing was just a funny fluke of the moment.
Fast forward to today. There’s almost zero food at the stores, the people are no longer obese, and no one’s laughing anymore. But it’s taken years to reach this point. I wonder if that’s how it would happen in the USA, or if things would fall apart more quickly. I’m guessing it depends on what, specifically, causes the shortages.
Very interesting times, indeed.
I think the diversity in the US will increase splintering, that will jack up competitiveness, that will increase crime, and that will enhance shortage.
As one example, once the EBT system goes down, I suspect minority EBT customers will be driven to raid white food stores out of necessity, probably in flashmobs. If that happens often enough, I suspect the food stores will be unable to stay in business, and have to shut down. As more and more stores shut down, it will just focus the flashmob attacks on the few remaining stores. Fewer stores and less supply will increase prices, exacerbating the economic problems.
That is one problem Venezuela doesn’t have, since it is one unified population. Widespread arming of streetgangs with military grade hardware will be another problem unique to cities in the US. And it will go on.
But yeah, really interesting times.
Matt Bracken wrote a speculative fiction essay about that exact situation for the EBT system going down – https://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/2012/09/03/bracken-when-the-music-stops-how-americas-cities-may-explode-in-violence/
unless GMO, those half-rotten tomatoes contain viable seeds, and so does much of the other produce. Quite possibly the minority EBT customers will not recognize what food-bearing plants look like, in people’s gardens. On a different but related note…. the liberals who live in the suburban area where I reside have allowed the deer population to overrun, and the deer are eating our gardens. We are prohibited by law to kill the deer. I see some potential solutions for the “deer problem” coming, along with the shift.
The big question is, when does the civil war begin? Will it? The situation in Chile that triggered Pinochet’s coup wasn’t half as bad as this, as far as I know. Neither was the situation in Brazil that triggered the revolution of 64. A few months back I saw a reporter going to Venezuela, and he describes the city as a sort of war zone, with hotel personel paranoid and literally barricading the front doors because of crime. Why is nobody fighting back with more than petitions and peaceful protests?
What surprises me about Venezuela’s decline is how gradually it progressed and how the population didn’t change their behavior in any significant way to become less dependent upon the government for their survival. Absolutely nothing. The only discernible change I could observe was productive people leaving the country as their country declined rather than continue fighting Chavez/Maduro.
Good, let them. Let the productive and daring escape with their genius to regroup where they can be appreciated. And let the envious masses learn the lesson of their cowardice and moral corruption. They will learn this lesson into the very cells of their bodies. And if they refuse to accept to give up their own corruption and learn what God is teaching them, then God will hand their lands and posterity over to a superior people who is willing to listen.
This is why leftists have to be taken care of asap. It’s an infection of the soul and spirit. If you leave it be, that is no different than letting a cancer be, or letting a gangrene infection be.
I cannot properly express the level of anger and rage I have towards the situation in Venezuela, I am actually more angry at the people of Venezuela for allowing this to happen, than I am at the filth and human garbage that created the situation.
I see Maduro as nothing more than human vermin. A thing, a rat, a piece of shit on legs. It will open it’s mouth and spew whatever string of words it must to acquire whatever needs it feels. It will run from danger without the least shame, it will throw children under the bus, it is basically the lowest form of parasite in existence.
So I have no real problem with Maduro. We all know how easy it is to fix him.
My anger and rage is at the @#$@#$ white knight faggot brigade whose gutless existence allows vermin and filth like Maduro to sabotage everyone. It is this slave mentality, a desire to sabotage other men, to appear good, with only the most lazy and pathetically superficial understanding or concern of what is good. For such people my disgust and contempt chokes me.
