Rand Paul Opposes New CIA Director

Not a smart move:

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said on Wednesday he would oppose President Trump’s nominations of CIA Director Mike Pompeo to be secretary of State and CIA Deputy Director Gina Haspel to lead the spy agency.

That is a mistake. Haspel was likely chosen because she has been too busy at the Agency trying to kill and interrogate genuine bad guys to get involved with any problematic cliques who might try to take out Trump and his team, or do something else destructive to Trump’s Administration. Block her, and you may end up with some nameless politician who never tortured a terrorist because he was too busy running cocaine into Mena airport, and killing anyone who got in the way.

Not sure what Rand’s thinking is here, but it feels like either he is grandstanding, or he is controlled opposition.

You can tell your friends about r/K Theory, because it is difficult to find anyone who isn’t in the machine

If Rand Paul is controlled opposition I hope that the deep state gets on the ball and elects 50 other US Senators so that the wasteful military occupation of Afghanistan can be called off.

Grandstanding. Pompeo has already been confirmed to the C/CIA, which is cabinet-level, so there won’t be a reconfirmation to move him to State. Haspel is the only one who needs confirmation.

I believe you are incorrect. Confirmation by the US Senate if for a specific position not generic. I could be wrong but I really don’t believe I am based on my reading of articles.

Haspel seems like a good choice. It’s best to reserve judgement but if the President approves and the nominee gets things done whats to complain about?

He may be starting to channel his father, “Dr. No”. I can believe he is running on principle, misguided principle at this stage of the game, but principle nonetheless.

At this point I don’t trust anyone in the CIA. I’ll wait and see, like I always do. But I won’t get my hopes up.

Grandstanding. He can’t show is face among libertarians if he doesn’t object to someone involved with torture.
