Raise The Age For Buying And Carrying A Cell Phone, As Well As Voting

David Hogg was upset that he has to use a clear backpack, which he feels violates his rights:

Broward County public schools superintendent Robert Runcie announced… only clear backpacks would be permitted at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

David Hogg, the outspoken MSD student who has spent more than a month advocating for stricter gun control laws, believes the move infringes on students’ constitutional rights.

What did he say?…

“It’s unnecessary, it’s embarrassing for a lot of the students and it makes them feel isolated and separated from the rest of American school culture where they’re having essentially their First Amendment rights infringed upon because they can’t freely wear whatever backpack they want regardless of what it is,” Hogg said.

“One of the other important things to realize is many students want their privacy. There are many, for example, females in our school that when they go through their menstrual cycle, they don’t want people to see their tampons and stuff,” he explained.

“What we should have is just more policies that make sure that these students are feeling safe and secure in their schools and not like they’re being fought against like it’s a prison,” he added.

But there is more he can do, if he wants to take charge of saving lives. Dan from squirrel hill shows that cell phone usage by teens while driving kills 269 times as many people as school shootings:

From January 1, 1999 until March 20, 2018… a total of 286 people were killed in school shootings.

That works out to 0.0408 people killed per day in school shootings.

Meanwhile, according to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, texting and driving kills an average of 11 teenagers every day.

This means that your texting and driving kills 269 times as many people as school shootings.

That is just teenagers killed. That is above and beyond the innocent adults they run over and kill in crashes. I’ll bet talking and driving kills even more.

I think the only answer to this is to raise the age at which a teen is allowed to purchase and carry a cell phone or engage in text messaging, if they have a driver’s license. I think a ban until age 21 would be a minimal response that is necessary. I would push for this, just to give these leftist teen activists a bad name among all teens.

After all, if it saves only one life…

It all sounds perfectly fair to me. Either you are a full fledged citizen at 18, or you are not. Of course, rabbits, who want everything they want and nothing they don’t will not be happy with that state of affairs.

But if they want to take freedoms, two can play that game.
