Rabbits are Going to Rabbit

If you were able to talk to a rabbit, you could not explain to it why it shouldn’t mate with young rabbits. There literally wouldn’t be an amygdala pathway in its brain to activate, to make it feel bad about doing that. Nor would it have any perception of young rabbits as needing an adult’s selfless protection.

For all of time, nature has rigorously culled all those urges. Rabbits who mated as aggressively as possible outcompeted those who did not, those who were less discriminating about mates had more offspring than those who discriminated, and those who risked themselves to protect their young got killed and had fewer offspring in total than those who left their young to die, when they were threatened.

Now, they have no deeper sense of morality about such things, nor can you imbue it. They are about their own survival and reproduction, pure and simple. If you see a young rabbit vulnerable, you mate with it. It is just how it is. It is just what you do. Why wouldn’t you do that?

It is just like that with the r-strategy in humans. This judge cannot see anything wrong with this guy raping a three year old. Punishing him for hurting that girl would be cruel.

The only way you could change his mind would be to point out to him how the public would revile him if he made this opinion known. For eons, humans exposed to r-selective environments have been culled exactly as the rabbits have been, except it has occurred within groups of aggressive, moral K-strategists. As a result, human r-strategists and rabbits are not really all that different, save for the human rabbit’s developed ability to on occasion, when necessary for survival camouflage themselves, pretending to be normal humans by feigning the urges which uncontrollably drive the rest of us.

Liberals aren’t human – they are just really good pretenders, if they fear the group. Where Liberals grow immoral, it is only because the moral have ceased to threaten them with ostracization and shame.
