We just talked about druggies, turned r by copious dopaminergic activity, going around stealing copper wire, and seeing it as free resources waiting to be harvested.
Now Feminists display their inner r-strategist rabbit, by demanding men just send them free money.
Liberalism is an r-selected reproductive strategy, and as such it programs the individual to expect a certain environment, and see certain environmental conditions as “just the way it should be.” Copious resources distributed freely is one of those environmental conditions they expect.
In our world of limited resources, they look weird as they go about just trying to find easy stuff to take, and turn into dopamine. However, if resources suddenly were in a hedonistic glut, we would appear just as strange to them, always striving and insisting on working and pursuing arduous goals while in monogamous relationships, when we could just lay around taking free stuff, and having promiscuous sex with everyone like they would.
r/K Selection is the only paradigm by which all of this not only makes sense, but becomes predictable.
I wouldn’t say that r/K Selection is the only paradigm by which all of this makes sense and predictable. How much of this does nurture, does permissiveness, play a role? There is a danger to considering those that select the r-strategy as merely being deigned, by design, to be that way, and that could mean something ugly that even us K-selected folks don’t want to contemplate. Not to say that we shouldn’t treat them like enemies, but at some point when do we acknowledge the role free will plays in their decisions?
I’ve been studying how mindsets are formed, and how they are perpetuated. It really doesn’t change much for anyone to change their mindset, but it does take consistent effort, and society does play a key role. I am reminded of the O.J. Simpson trial (the one where he murdered two people with a knife), and how it seemed overnight that there was this zeitgeist in the pop culture that believed that Simpson was innocent, in spite of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. There were even those helping to perpetuate this zeitgeist that even if Simpson was actually guilty (and he was), that the jury shouldn’t convict him and give him two free murders, for various reasons relating to his celebrity and his race. This is a mindset that denies fundamental Truth and duties to the Truth. Even today, I still run into people who say that Simpson did not kill Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.
How does this happen? You can say there’s some r-select strategy at work here, but I believe this goes even deeper, getting into philosophical and theological considerations that transcend biology. Why do blacks overwhelmingly vote Democrat despite their long and established history of deliberate and systematic racism toward the black community? Is it merely because they offer “free” resources in exchange for votes? Or, could there be something else at play? Something that encourages people to be guided by mere animalistic urges at the expense of something higher, something nobler?
There is a book called Liberty, The God That Failed, by Christopher Ferrara, that delves into this, though it doesn’t specifically cite all the plagues liberalism has caused. It goes into something I’ve been saying for a long, long time now, and I might decide to write about it – that Freedom and Liberty are two distinctly different concepts that most people, no matter their political stripe, do not fully understand.
