Conservative values are more conducive to lasting happiness; liberal values tend to engender fleeting pleasure. Liberals pursue happiness, but for conservatives it naturally ensues.
Ever wonder why so many liberal Democrats are seething in discontent? It’s because they are takers, not givers. Mounting research indicates that generosity, rather than selfishness, is more likely to produce lasting happiness, an elusive emotion for liberals who languish on the wrong side of the generosity gap.
Liberals are consumers, programmed to never be satisfied so as to drive compulsive consumption and sex. Conservatives are designed for a harsh world where the pleasure that drives them is their focus on their passion for greatness, yet still, they are very capable of finding outlet for their urges during r-selection in acts of in-group loyalty and the production of quality.
It applies in sex too, as one commenter pointed out:

In all five participating countries (Sweden, Germany, France, Denmark, and Britain), very right wing people had the highest level of sexual satisfaction, whilst very left wing people tended to have the lowest on average.
K-selected Conservatives are programmed to be satisfied as part of their strategy of monogamy, while r-selected liberals are programmed to never be satisfied, and just keep mating.
There is not just an element of maturity to K-selection, but also an element of satisfaction and greatness. Mankind was not meant for ease or lack of threat. Ease and lack of threat will not just leave him immature – it will also leave him perpetually unsatisfied, almost like some Greek torture of the Gods – always striving for one thing and fleeing another, only to find they are not only never gaining what they want, but they are perpetuating their own torture.
