This will be a problem in the Apocalypse:
More than 500 teens in a flash mob confronted police outside the Lonnie Young Recreation Center in Germantown Sunday night.
Police say it all began a little bit after 6 p.m. When officers arrived, they found the large crowd on the sidewalk and in the street, as most were estimated to be between 12 and 17-years-old.
Officers said glass bottles were thrown at them. Publicly available videos on social media show the teens surrounding officers in their vehicles, hopping on top of cars and generally taunting police.
Police commanders made the decision not to make any arrests, as to not escalate the situation, and the crowd disbursed within in few hours.
One model for what we will see in the Apocalypse will be the radical leftist militant movements of the 60’s, as well as, with a little media assistance, radical black nationalist movements that blame the Police for every incident which occurs in their neighborhoods. I suspect given how bad the Apocalypse will be, amygdalae will be in a much higher gear than they were in the 60’s, and the violence will be too.
If in the 60’s the Black Panthers had the leftist mainstream media inflaming the anti-Police attitudes in the black community like they are today, and the ability to assemble flashmobs on a moment’s notice, they probably would have tracked officers, and maybe used ploys like fake 911 calls to isolate individual officers or pairs on patrol. Once the officers were isolated, they would have launched flashmob ambushes on those individual officers.
It might pay for Law Enforcement to begin giving thought to how to patrol during the Apocalypse in a way that protects individual officers in an era of social media flashmobs and hostile media, before the real anti-Police militancy builds in response to the shortage. It might even pay to begin looking at how to adapt the patrolling techniques used in Iraq and Afghanistan to keep officers safe in the event things get really hot and hostile in the ghettos. Making sure big calls in one place don’t leave individual officers isolated in another, and having the ability to monitor and shut down calls for flashmobs in real time by killing cell phone networks might also help.
Something will have to be done, because the old days of militant Black Panthers and Weather Underground will be coming back. This time around they will have the ability to reach out to a plethora of low IQ rubes and isolated lone wolves using all sorts of new tools, many supplied for free by the government, to mobilize armies of heavily armed mental midgets on a moment’s notice.
Tell everyone about r/K Theory, because the savages will get the first shot in the Apocalypse
[…] Police Mobbed By 500 Strong Flashmob Of Youths […]
This is why city life just for ain’t for me. No sir, don’t want no battle of Mogadishu in my backyard.
I refuse to believe that these social media sites haven’t made it available for law enforcement agencies to conduct passive/active surveillance of users within their towns and cities. No way could a flash mob have been mustered amongst black teens in an area and law enforcement wasn’t aware it was about to go down, before it went down.
“Police commanders made the decision not to make any arrests, as to not escalate the situation…”
The police will take this kind of approach for a while, and things will get much worse. Then eventually they’ll have to jump to much more extreme measures. I really don’t know what the proper approach is right now. Politics and the social norms (as well as many cops’ mindset) won’t allow the measures that would probably be most effective. And so it’s going to continue to erode until we have chaos on the streets.
Just as a thought exercise let’s say flash mobs become a really big serious threat to the community. Well their assembling in one place provides strength but it also provides a target rich environment.
