Around 500,000 people have joined the @NRA since the outrage from the left #NeverAgain and #BoycottNRA movement – sources

Two unexpected results from new polling in the wake of the Florida school shooting finds that President Trump enjoys support for his call to arm qualified teachers while companies joining a boycott of the NRA are facing a consumer backlash.
In the first of two Morning Consult polls, 50 percent said they back armed teachers in schools, a quick fix backed by Trump and first suggested by the National Rifle Association. Some eight states already allow armed teachers in schools, and another six are considering it.
In a separate poll, they found outrage at companies that have pulled sponsorship from the NRA…in an analysis titled, “Companies See Negative Responses to Cutting Business Ties With NRA — Poll shows unfavorable ratings rose for firms that severed ties with the NRA.”
This is the K-shift, and mortally salient stimuli are everywhere, so this is not the end of the trend. Just like r is a scale, so is K, and we have quite a bit of K to go – and then there will be the Apocalypse.
And in the midst of this mood, Trump has lured the Democrats into doing this:
Rep. David N. Cicilline (D-RI) and numerous Democrat colleagues in the House are pushing an “assault weapons” ban that would prohibit “high capacity” magazines and 205 different firearms. The Providence Journal reports that Cicilline’s bill, HR 5087, “would prohibit the sale, transfer, production, and importation of semi-automatic rifles and pistols that have a magazine or can accept a magazine that can hold more than 10 bullets, and any ammunition-feeding device that can hold more than 10 bullets.”
Cicilline’s bill describes an “semiautomatic assault weapon” as a firearm with a “detachable magazine” and a “pistol grip,” “forward grip,” “folding stock,” “rocket launcher,” or “threaded barrel.” The list includes pistols made by CZ, Daniel Defense, America Spirit, Heckler and Koch, Centurion, and DPMS, among others. It includes rifles made by Kel-Tec, Springfield Armory, Heckler and Koch, Barrett, Beretta, Stag Arms, Remington, Rock River, Mossberg, Diamond Back, Daniel Defense, Colt, Bushmaster, Armalite, and Norinco, among others.
Cicilline’s bill bans “all AK types” even though the Florida gunman used an AR-15.
That is going to ban a lot more than just 205 types of firearms. The NRA needs this for fundraising, and the threat, done right, can motivate turnout in November too.
It is a little bit of a risk and a cost, because gun owners tend to be triggerable over these things. When Trump is luring the leftists in, and making it look like he supports taking guns without due process, or is open to an assault weapons ban, or he wants to raise the age to purchase, or he says we have to “fight the NRA,” it does trigger an involuntary twitch in my left eye. But the leftists are seeing weakness (and free easy victory), and they are unable to control themselves.
But if the bills crashe in the Senate, especially if Trump can engineer it so the left crashes them in a tissy fit over some extreme position, that gunowner angst will pass, and the conservatives will have plenty of motivation come November to turn out and protect their guns.
Tell others about r/K Theory, because everything is going our way
So what is wrong with ensuring school entrances are secure, cameras are linked in real time to school offices and law enforcement, and school security guards aren’t cowards? Why pile on another layer of defence?
It boggles my mind how quickly we avoid addressing the flaws before trying a new idea.
Once again, the left squeezes water.
“This is the K-shift, and mortally salient stimuli are everywhere, so this is not the end of the trend. Just like r is a scale, so is K, and we have quite a bit of K to go – and then there will be the Apocalypse.”
When do you think we will have this Apocalypse in the United States?
Has to be by 2035 I would think, as that si when even the rosy prediction with the phony numbers indicate, but until then, it is like predicting a stampede with cattle. At any moment, an amygdala-shock big enough could set it off.
WHILE THIS IS ALL GOING ON, A DYNAMIC I’M PERCEIVING IS THUS: MANY PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY WOMEN, WHO MIGHT BE CALLED ‘ LIBERAL ‘, ARE REALLY NICE PEOPLE WHO JUST DON’T LIKE CONFLICT, AND WE MIGHT DO WELL TO REMEMBER THAT NOT EVERYONE HAS THE INNATE DISPOSITION OF A WARRIOR. I’M SENSING THAT TRUMP INHERENTLY KNOWS THIS, AND, WHILE NOT ASKING OR EXPECTING ALL TO ACTUALLY LIKE HIM, HE IS A MASTER AT PROMPTING THE LEFT (not ‘liberals’) TO ILLUSTRATE THEIR INSANE, IRRATIONAL HATRED AND PERVASIVE, CHRONIC ANGER SO AS TO ENLIGHTEN NICE DECENT PEOPLE TO JUST HOW INTRACTABLE THE LEFT HAS BECOME. MANY NICE, DECENT PEOPLE LIKED IT BETTER WHEN THEIR TV SHOWS, KIDS ACTIVITIES, GATHERINGS etc. WEREN’T HIJACKED BY THE LEFT. JUST WANTED TO MAKE THAT DISTINCTION, LEST WE ARE MISUNDERSTOOD.
wolfmack, All caps are hard to read.
If a person doesn’t want any conflict, then he/she will spend their lives being dominated by other people because they don’t fight back.
I sure hope you’re right about this… that Trump’s apparent support for certain gun control measures is merely bait for a trap. I hope he knows, as I’m sure you know, that he is playing with fire. Quite a few 2A folks are not in the mood to back up even one inch further no matter what laws they pass.
