Now Liberals Have a Problem With Artificial Intelligence

The Twitter Trollosphere found they could manipulate how an artificial intelligence tweeted:

Microsoft’ newly launched A.I.-powered bot called Tay, which was responding to tweets and chats on GroupMe and Kik, has already been shut down due to concerns with its inability to recognize when it was making offensive or racist statements. Of course, the bot wasn’t coded to be racist, but it “learns” from those it interacts with. And naturally, given that this is the Internet, one of the first things online users taught Tay was how to be racist, and how to spout back ill-informed or inflammatory political opinions. [Update: Microsoft now says it’s “making adjustments” to Tay in light of this problem.]

In case you missed it, Tay is an A.I. project built by the Microsoft Technology and Research and Bing teams, in an effort to conduct research on conversational understanding. That is, it’s a bot that you can talk to online. The company described the bot as “Microsoft’s A.I. fam the internet that’s got zero chill!”, if you can believe that…

Microsoft has since deleted some of the most damaging tweets, but a website called Socialhax.com collected screenshots of several of these before they were removed. Many of the tweets saw Tay referencing Hitler, denying the Holocaust, supporting Trump’s immigration plans (to “build a wall”), or even weighing in on the side of the abusers in the #GamerGate scandal.

Tweets are in a slideshow at the link, but they are fairly benign. Still, it was enough to make Microsoft take Tay out behind the barn, drop her to her knees and put a bullet in her head.

The problem with an artificial intelligence which learns is that it is not entirely controllable. Leftists are so mentally fragile that they cannot tolerate anything they can’t control completely. Supporting Gamergaters or liking Trump’s immigration proposals is just common sense. But if you are a fragile leftist crybully, having an artificial intelligence you created espouse such simple reality is too extraordinarily painful to cope with.

If leftists can’t tolerate an artificial intelligence which isn’t even real or conscious of what it is saying, how can leftists possibly hope to cope in a world filled with many varied personalities which hold many varied ideas and perceptions? Leftists preach a lot about diversity, but when it comes to the only part of the world that matters – the world of ideas and reality, they are the most intolerant people on the face of the earth. Their mental frailty and undeveloped amygdalae force them to be.
