News Briefs – 11/11/2022

Here are some news stories that might be of interest. Most articles will be more or less summarized in the headline. You can skim the headlines and summaries, and click the links if they are of interest. Keep in mind, many of these reports are products of an unreliable news media, so although they will be what people are hearing and talking about, there is no guarantee any one of them is necessarily correct, and we have had cases of outright lies make it onto these pages.

We have a temporary advertiser, The Daily Financial Trends – a financial news aggregator designed to deliver the data other financial sites deliver, but in a fraction of the time. Give them a click and see if you prefer getting your financial news there.

We maintain a light, news-story-only, very mobile-friendly  version of this site, with no comments, at https://www.rkpolitics.com

If you have clicked on the page for this News Brief, this is a link that will take you directly to the comments section.

If they are going to take down cryptos that way, it might pay to factor that in.

UPDATE: Nevada US Senate

My man downtown tells me Paul Laxalt will be declared the winner of the Nevada US Senate Race.

Replying to @greggphillips
– crap, typo. I meant Adam. Paul is his middle name and his grandfathers name. I knew his grandfather long ago.

Adam Laxalt’s grandfather was Paul Laxalt, “an American politician who was Governor of Nevada from 1967 to 1971 and a United States Senator from 1974 to 1987.” His daughter married Senator Pete Dominici. And while maybe they all might have run in the same circles, what are the chances some shadowy spook who is at the center of the second-biggest scandal in the country after the surveillance, halfway across the country, also knows a guy who is 100 years old, and was vital to the politics of the area involved in the fraud. It seems like a small world up there.

4Chan was interested in the Uhaul delivering ballots to Detroit in the pic above. An anon summarizes where they got to:

qrd: uhaul anon employee searches the serial number on the uhaul truck in that pick and posts the name and email info for who rented that truck.

the name we are seeing belongs to a black woman who died last month and worked for the post office at one point. the email address is a totally different name and it is a city of detroit government address. another anon finds out that this email address only existed for the last 2 months and is likely a spoof email for them to make the transaction with uhaul. it was also mentioned that it was a personal credit card used to make the transaction which is a red flag that money transactions were being hidden from the government accounting. the theory then is that they used a deceased woman’s credentials and a city of detroit government email address to rent the uhaul.

what else could it be? random fraud and ID theft with access to a city of detroit email? i don’t think so.

The info Uhaul anon got:

Here is a Project Veritas video of a private school teacher who thought he was on a date, and the girl was one of Project Veritas’ plants. He relates to her that as a teacher in the school, multiple girls are talking with each other behind the scenes, coordinating the color of their panties in the class, and they are sitting so they are in front of him as he teaches, opening their legs to show him their panties, and they are positioning the underwear to reveal more, and distract him, as they smirk at him. I don’t know if 15 year old girls are this aggressive in behavior these days, or if maybe teen girls could do this organically as a way to screw with a teacher just as some teen girl thing. But I would not be the least bit surprised if Cabal wanted to get their member into that school in his teaching position, and this entire thing was an operation to get rid of this guy and open up his job for their member. Here you are looking at an elite private school, which means the surveillance will want to penetrate it to get on top of the kids who are going places, so there will be a robust network of spy kids inserted into the student body, the girls will be sexualized to view sex as a tool of manipulation and control, and the network will want very badly to get their teachers in there. And of course, Veritas will itself be a target for infiltration, so the people James hires will have a decent probability of being Cabal surveillance/intelligence, and targeting people based on orders they are getting behind the scenes. This thing is everywhere, and it is like the CIA in the way it operates. Because nobody knows it is out there, it really just has free reign to fuck over everyone’s life at will. I am intimately familiar with some hot teenage girls being sent after a very, very good basketball coach. He was coaching at a not completely cabal school and on his way to build a dynasty that would win league championships. The nearby school which is a complete project saw him as their biggest obstacle to gaining a league championship and then beyond. So they had some hot girls work him and then approach him away from school. As far as I know, he didn’t do anything wrong but they still created a situation where he was disciplined and banned from coaching. All completely on hearsay. He no longer coaches. He had to make a complete change of career.

I know a lot of folks are now convinced Q was a psyop, and maybe it was.
I’m wondering if it might have been a test. Think about the face diapers–getting millions to wear them didn’t directly accomplish a Cabal objective. But they were like a bellweather for compliance. By observing how many sheeple were willing to recycle their own germs and carbon dioxide 24/7 by wearing something that can’t filter out a virus, they got a fairly accurate baseline to predict how many would take the Darwin Stab because government/media told them it was their civic duty. And that could give a future regime a baseline to predict compliance for the Mark.
Maybe the whole Q phenomenon was an experiment of some kind. Cabal purposely mixes in enough truth to resonate with the non-conformist critical thinkers that it draws a huge following. They get our hopes up repeatedly only to play more Lucy-holding-the-football to discourage, demoralize, or just piss us off. And then disappear and observe what we do (effectively nothing, it turns out) for a while. Then string us along with one or two cryptic posts a year.
Maybe it’s to see how long we’ll bend over and take their shit, even after they let people learn some inside baseball who normally wouldn’t. Maybe they’re investing in a confidence game with the individuals likely to survive their vax-o-cide. I don’t know; but it is beginning to seem like we are subjects in some kind of experiment.

Yes, Q was a psyop. The idea of it was to provoke cabal into overreacting and making themselves visible to the masses. And it was to provoke people like us into seeing what’s going on and helping to wake up the masses.

Unfortunately, a bunch of conservatives invented a fiction that Q was just posting for the entertainment of the masses and decided that they didn’t need to actually do anything. And then some of these same people started complaining that Q made people complacent. And now they are demanding that Q “do something” and refusing to read any more posts until somehow a bunch of people are arrested. Now some shills are telling people to not vote and that Q was somehow a trap. As a result, some conservatives are happy to go back to surrendering completely the rest of their country.

Or Q could be indeed be Lucy holding the football for Charlie to get his hopes up on a false hope.
It is too suspiciously similar to the Biblical admonitions to keep the faith in God. To “Trust the Plan”.
But Q is just Man and not God. So We should be far less inclined to “Trust the Plan” that could well be Operation Trust.

So, Fake, Failed or Five-D Chess
Fake. PsyOp. But why wake up so many? Why demonize Q as a cult?Fail. “The Plan” failed and Cabal took control5D Chess. There are still too many people asleep, and things need to get way worse. If “The Plan” failed, why was Q team not exposed, humiliated & prosecuted?

The Q team would not be exposed and sentenced because that would suddenly give the Q team credibility, the media would have to admit that it wasn’t disinformation nor a conspiracy hoax. Of course, they could always lie, but even that would be awkward.

There’s definitely something going on, and Cabal here in America seems spooked about something. My guess is that they are really flailing in the dark, and it’s probably slowly working to make cabal ever more paranoid as they can’t be certain who is really on their side.

That Project Veritas story sounds invented to me. Wouldn’t their desks block any indecent views? And when teenage girls misbehave around adults, they’re almost always uncooperative or aggressive, but very rarely lewd.

In the video, James O’Keefe, founder of Project Veritas, said a journalist met with Rasti and he “chose to describe his adolescent female students in a graphic, sexual manner for nearly two hours.”

https://www.ctpost.com/news/article/Greens-Farms-Westport-teacher-Project-Veritas-17575340.php

So it’s your first date with someone, and you spend all your time talking about how fuckable other women are? Sounds like a guy caught up in some major sex fantasies* rather than a Cabal plot.

How do teachers get frozen out of their positions? I knew two young female math teachers this happened to, at different schools. One left her position because she kept getting belittled and bullied by her boomer math teacher colleagues (when she complained to her principal, he told her that they were too old to change and she just had to deal with it). The other just got fewer and fewer lessons to teach despite good performance reviews (her principal said that her colleagues had big mortgages, kids in college, and seniority, so he couldn’t in good conscience give her more than table scraps or even guarantee she’d get any lessons the next school year). It just so happens that both of these women were very moral people who wouldn’t have gone along with any corruption.

*Cenk Uygur bonus quotes:

In an entry from 2000, Uygur complained about not having enough sex while living in Miami: “It seems like there is a sea of tits here, and I am drinking in tiny droplets. I want to dive into the whole god damn ocean,” he wrote. “Obviously, the genes of women are flawed. They are poorly designed creatures who do not want to have sex nearly as often as needed for the human race to get along peaceably and fruitfully.”

In a a post archived in 2003, he wrote about carousing with numerous women in New Orleans while drunk. “I had one of the best nights of my life at Mardi Gras. I kissed over 23 different women, saw and felt countless breasts, and was in a wonderful drunken stupor thanks to my friend John Daniels,” reads the post.

“Men often need to be cruel to attain power or maintain their rule. Cruelty may be good or bad depending on whether it is wisely or unwisely employed. According to Machiavelli, cruelty is permissible if it is well used, that is “done at a stroke, out of the necessity to secure oneself, and then not persisted in but are turned to as much utility for the subjects as one can.”[6] Proper use of cruelty dictates it be rarely used, done only out of necessity, and for the benefit of subjects so far as is possible. Poorly used cruelty continues and grows in its enormity rather than ceasing when necessity has passed. Those rulers who are unable to control their passions or exercise prudence frequently misuse cruelty.”
-“The Prince” Niccolo Machiavelli

The bible examples of the Book of Kings and Chronicles involve God contending with the raw dynamics of power and whose actions are eerily similar to what Machiavelli recommends.

There is also a difference between neutralising evil, and becoming evil.
“no quarter or consideration” means killing innocents.
Fighting the nazis was one thing. Killing prisoners, raping their women & killing their children, is evil.
If you become evil, you lose the support of the creator.

Many times in the OT, God instructed the Israelites to kill prisoners, kill women and children, etc. It’s not as simple as you stated. In particular, God visits the sins of the elders onto their children, and He does it for good reason.

True. But it seems to be the exception to the rule. When God ordered the Amalekites to be destroyed this way.
Israel was going through hard economic times with scarcity of fertile land. They couldn’t afford any captives like when their captured captives from the Midianites.
https://www.christian-thinktank.com/nowelfare.html
In Deuteronomy 20-21. When Israelites are permitted to take captives in countries far away it assumes they have the economic capacity to afford the logistics to conquer distant Nations.

This is going to be a lengthy update on the House of Representatives races. I see a lot of, well, gaslighting, that it will be a narrow win but the Republicans will take the House. I am not seeing this. I must be seeing more electoral fraud than most commentators.

The Democrats are in a very good position to steal this. A majority of the uncalled races are in California, and these have low percentages of the vote counted. From what I am seeing, you will either get a manufactured outright Democratic majority, or a nominal Republican majority and then some Republicans will switch parties.

Btw, no one except for AC in one of his links above is discussing the possibility of party switching.

Real Clear politics has 211 House races called for the Republicans, 196 for the Democrats, and 28 races uncalled.

These totals are not firm. Last night, the Democratic total was 197. Also 218 is the majority, but I expect then to instruct enough GOP reps to switch parties to keep the Donk majority, so don’t put too much weight on this.

So with 28 uncalled races, I can list them one by one:

Maine
2 Donk at 49.2% with 88% in and ranked choice voting, so that one is going Donk

New York
22 Central upstate NY district with strong GOP lean. GOP with 50.7% with 94% counted, so I think they are going to give us that one.

Maryland
6 GOP with 50.3% with 88% in. Honestly don’t know.

Arizona
1 Donk at 50.8% with 80% in.
6 GOP at 51.2% with 82% in
Its Arizona, and we know what is happening there. 6 is entirely within Maricopa County, 1 has some Maricopa territory and includes the Indian reservations. I think they both get stolen.

Colorado
3 GOP at 50.2% with 99% in. This is Boebert’s district. It looks like they give it to her and the close call was to warn her.
8 Donk ahead by 0.8% with 94% in, no candidate has a majority. However, Colorado is one of the worst states for election fraud. Probably count this one for the Donks too.

Nevada
3 Donk with 51% with 90% in, and its Nevada. Nevada newspapers are calling this for the Donks.

Oregon
5 GOP with 51.1% with 86% in. Deplorable heavy area.
6 Donk ahead by 1.7% with 80% in, no one has majority
Oregon has 100% mail in voting.

Washington
3 Donk with 50.8% with 83% in. Joe Kent is the GOP candidate.
8 Donk with 52% with 86% in.
Washington doesn’t seem as obvious as the other blue states with election administrations, but its political establishment is heavily Democratic or country club GOP.

Alaska
AL Donk with 47.3% to 26.6% for Palin, with 72% in.
Rank choice voting. I think media has called this for the Democrats due to the ranked choice voting, but who knows.

California
I’m going to list the four districts where a majority of the vote is in, all in southern California

26 Donk with 54.2% with 54% in.
45 GOP with 54.5% with 55% in.
47 Donk with 50.8% with 63% in.
49 Donk with 51.7% with 64% in.

The other districts, that don’t have a majority of the vote in yet, and both Democratic and Republican candidates, are 3, 6, 9, 13, 21, 22, 26, 27, and 41. So little of the vote is in that I don’t want to look these up to see what their normal lean is. Republicans currently only have leads in three, 3, 22, and 27, and the Republican in 22 voted to impeach Trump, so him winning there doesn’t really help.

Real Clear politics have two other California districts, 15 and 34, as undecided, but neither has a Republican candidate, just two Democrats running against each other.

In 2018 especially, but especially 2022, California had lots of undecided races that took forever to count, but broke for the Democrats with massive vote dumps right at the end, so you kind of know the deal.

So to sum up, GOP is credited with 211, and this is not a firm number. Real Clear politics shows 28 undecided races. A majority of these are in California, so already this is a problem.

CA 15 and CA 34 don’t have Republican candidates, so the GOP are obviously not getting those.

With the other 13 Congressional districts, not even a majority of the votes have been counted in 9, and out of the 13 the GOP has leads in only 4. And one of the 4 is a never Trumper.

Another seven of these districts are in states, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, that have seen obvious irregularities in both 2020 or 2022, or have 100% mail in voting as is the case with Oregon. I think they let Boebert through, and the other six will be called for the Democrats.

So that leaves just six races. One of these, ME 2, is pretty obviously a Democratic hold, and the Republican candidate is in decent shape in NY 22. Don’t know about the other four. I have no idea with MD 6, then you have Sarah Palin’s race, and two districts in Washington where the Democrats have leads and they are slow walking the count.

So give the GOP NY 22, MD 6, and CO 3. The Democrats should take ME 2 and AK AL. That gets the Republicans to 214.

The Democrats are in a position to just take all the other races, and leave the Republicans with fewer seats than they had going in. My guess is that they through three California races to the GOP and sweep all the rest. All these are in states where they have complete control of the election counting.

The Senate is much simpler, with only three undecided races, plus Alaska.

You get to 50 Donk Senators plus the VP with Democratic wins in Nevada and Arizona, where we know what is happening, plus a GOP defection, most likley Murkowski, and they can throw Georgia to the GOP as a bone. But they are in a position to just win the Georgia runoff and not bother with the defector.

I have not seen the argument made publicly yet that Trump’s recent self-destructiveness is being done deliberately by him to clear the field of himself, to make way for DeSantis. But his behaviour would make sense if examined in that light.

The Plan was always for Trump to open the field of battle through his shock-election, and the next one–DeSantis(?)–would be the executive who had the popular political strength and targeted sensibility to make the permanent America First / anti-Cabal changes we know must need to be made.

The Republicans seem to be winning the aggregate total House vote by 5%, actually a bigger margin than they got in 2010. The problem is a lot of votes in California is uncounted, so this margin will go down or could disappear.

Still, I am seeing a ton of gaslighting about this election on the red sites. You even get some of the same phrases used again and again by “commentators”. My favorite is “candidate quality”. Obviously lots of blaming Trump, but there is this weird campaign to blame the pro-Life movement as well. And you get the usual blaming of the voters themselves.

The actual situation is that even assuming all the votes are valid votes from actual voters, it appears the Republicans got the votes to do this. If you assume no fraud, the Republicans got the votes and got unlucky in how they were distributed. So you can go to other sites and see lots of concern trolling bs.

However, this is probably to cover up the fraud and that we are in a situation where its a one party regime, but they still hold elections and let the other party run candidates, they just make sure the ruling party wins regardless of what the voters think. There are lots these sorts of governments in the world.

Before, all of this stuff was thrown at minor parties like the Libertarians and independents, but they went for this alteration between Democrats and Republicans, on the understanding they pushed the same policies when in power, or divided government. They seem to be dropping the GOP and just going the the Democrats, with the intention of using the GOP as the token opposition party. I wonder if and when they will take the additional step of dropping the multi-candidate elections.

I’ve suspected that from the beginning.

There are no white hats at the upper levels.

The best you can hope for are grey hats who don’t like how extreme and degenerate cabal has gotten, and don’t want to clean up after the engineered collapse that is underway.

Various cabal factions are warring, and one of them recruited Trump, but that backing has possibly been withdrawn from Trump at this point.

Re: Project veritas and teaching
Can confirm, I think. I taught overseas for awhile and occasionally the high school girls would get a bit too familiar. The most awkward case was actually a boy started gushing over how great I was in the middle of a chemistry lesson in front of the whole class. Both myself and the rest of the students were absolutely dumbfounded. (Awkwardly clears throat “Ok, lets continue the lesson now”) Although, in those cases at least it was after a long time of teaching. When I came back to the US I tried teaching in a high school here for a short time. Don’t really recommend it. The students for the most part are very unruly and rude here. Which might be part of the psy-op sometimes.
One girl in particular had a two parter. Had a real ditsy innocent demeaner. Based on another teachers suggestion, I had all the students sign some “I’ll be good and try” paper with their parents. This girl came up to me after class a day or two later and started crying because she said her dad worked out of town most of the time and I guess no mom and she couldn’t sign it in the time frame. I had already been thinking that paper was stupid and was wondering why I had even bothered. It took a minute but I finally got her to calm down and told her not to worry about it. To be fair to everyone, and also because I later reconsidered the whole thing as a bad idea, I just gave everyone (the trivial amount of) credit points regardless of if they handed it in or not and promptly never mentioned it again.
A week or two later, same girl comes after class to ask some questions on homework. We are standing at a table and I’m explaining whatever and she decides to stand so close that she is pretty much leaning into me. I took a step away and continued on the explanation. After reading AC, I can’t help but see stuff like this as a skit. Especially since I had only been there a month or two at that point, unlike my previous experience where stuff like that didn’t happen until almost a year had passed at least.
After this, the assholes (different students) really ramped up and I just decided that dealing with it wasn’t worthwhile so I just quit the job. Unfortunate for them, as I am pretty good at science and explaining things clearly, I believe.
Not long after this, I saw that project veritas was hiring somewhere and for shits and giggles I sent in an application. They actually proceeded through the interview process and actually flew me to New York and put me in a hotel. The interview process for them, at least as far as I got, was kind of interesting. It was for 3 or 4 days. The first day there I went to their office and met some people, had some brief conversations and then was given some surveillance equipment. 1 item was a camera built into a button which you would replace your button with. The second was a fake coffee cup with audio recording stuff in the bottom, but you could fill the top. The third was a laptop they wanted me to fill out the reports after I was done and email to them. Reminded me a bit of Jurassic park and shaving cream. My task was to go out that night and get 3 pictures of different people’s drivers licenses and then go back to the room a write a report.
I actually succeeded with this, but when I went to write the report Microsoft office had saved the last opened documents in that generic startup screen. Even though these files were deleted, and you wouldn’t actually be able to open them up, you could still see a lot of info based on this snapshot Microsoft had saved. This included the name of the previous candidate, her phone number, the date she interviewed and some other stuff. Thinking I would help them out, when I emailed in my reports that night I told them about the issue and to prove I actually did experience what I was talking about I took a few screen shots and gave specific information.
I went in the next day and things seemed fine for a while, but pretty soon a higher up asked me to come talk with him in a private room. Not o’keefe. The man was absolutely livid. But he was trying to cover that up and never actually explained what he was mad about. He just said that it wasn’t going to work out and I didn’t need to do the rest of the interview process. After the fact, the only thing I could think of is perhaps I blew the girls cover by using gmail to email it to them? Maybe they thought I was an infiltrator or some super hacker or both? Or maybe they finally bothered to check my history as an internet dissident (which uniquely I was up front about before they flew me up. I normally don’t mention that in applications, but it seemed appropriate in this case. No, I won’t say who I am here) and decided they didn’t want that kind of publicity. I don’t really know. In retrospect either one would make sense, I should have handled the op-sec issue differently. But still, the mistake with op-sec was quite innocent on my part.

Its sort of amazing with that whole teaching experience. I think in retrospect it was a fishing attempt to see if something could be got on me. When the ploy didn’t work, I more or less got pushed out because I refused to deal with obnoxious people (students) every day. It wasn’t like that in my highschool classes when I was a student. Kids didn’t act that way. And it wasn’t like that when I taught in other countries, except rarely and after a long time which would at least make more sense. This wasn’t an inner city school either. It was a kind of small town an hour out from a big city. You would think a place like that wouldn’t be as bad naturally. That pretty much only leaves psy-ops as an explanation in my opinion. What’s really annoying about such things is you can never be 100% sure. And if you bring it up with anyone not on ACs site you are usually believed to be a lunatic. Revealing the surveillance won’t ever happen if the most you can get is hunches, suspicians and hard to prove experiences. They are effective at not crossing the line of leaving proof of what is happening most of the time. Its all so tiresome.
I am not entirely sure about veritas. All I can say is it was clear that someone there fucked up, and that guy was very, very angry about it. I suppose they might be of the opinion I was the one who fucked up in my handling of their op-sec breach. But if that’s the case, fuck them. You should have been more thorough wiping those laptops in the first place instead of blaming the messenger. Also having some experience in tech, I was nice enough to explain how to get rid of that in the future but that didn’t earn me any gratitude.
I think you are correct. That really wouldn’t have been a good job for me even if I was betraying the right people, its still betrayal. Spiritually speaking, those sort of actions probably dirty the soul even when trying to do it for the right reasons against the dirtiest, evilist pricks. I am gradually coming to the belief that this world is lost and fallen and there is nothing that can be done. The best I can hope for is to keep my nose clean and wait for better things after.

For those worried about losing any message contents due to these glitches, write it first in your notepad etc. (also can use your email “draft” as location to compose) then copy/paste into the “reply” box, as I may well have done here instead of directly composing in this reply box. Then you have the option to separately save as an email draft or WORD or notepad (whatever, just so long as you use something for backup) and can always re-send exactly what you wrote, no longer in danger of it forever vanishing in the ether, spam, or trash. After all, now you have your very own copy to save for that book you might someday write.

The concept is, if you keep losing something (or some thing in any other phase of life fails in outcome) and yet a body keeps doing the process in the same way, you haven’t made progress as bright people should, as we undoubtedly consider ourselves to be, right? *** Remember the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result, so shine up that dull mind and become bright, all over again, just like it used to be.

@AC
>I would much prefer our side be ruthless tyrants when dealing with the enemy, and that they give no quarter or consideration. For that matter, I would prefer an entirely different form of operation.
-“The Prince” Niccolo Machiavelli
https://voegelinview.com/machiavellis-restrained-violence/
Coincidentally the Bible also deals with the same raw dynamics of power that Machiavelli does:
“Merritt is youthful and handsome; his sturdy features bear an uncanny resemblance to Malcolm X, whom I suspect is one of his heroes. Like Malcolm, he has embraced Islam in prison. A bluish blur of a tattoo, the actual design of which I still cannot make out, emerges from the collar of his grey sweatshirt and creeps up his muscular neck. When he offers up his reaction to the reading, I press him for more.
“Wack?” I say. “What do you mean by that?”
“Oh, yeah.” The others signal their agreement with laughter. It’s a good sign.
“Tell me about it.”
“It’s like, it’s like a book about Mafia, man,” he continues.
I can feel the grin creeping across my face. And I’m sure that they can notice it. I can see where this is going—and it’s going perfectly.
“Okay,” I say. “Explain it to me.”
Merritt begins to present. He’s got his little JPS Bible in one hand and gestures with the other like a preacher. “The whole story’s about power and deceit,” he says. His casual manner of speaking masks a keen intelligence. I’ve learned not to underestimate him. He told me he aspires to be a community organizer when he gets out; I imagine he could run the show.
“I mean, there’s even a hit list!” he adds, referring to the dark instructions imparted from father to son in one of the passages.
“Yup,” I reply. “That’s all there.”
“It just doesn’t seem all that holy,” a student says. His age is indistinct—I guess he’s probably somewhere in his 30s—and with his bald head, little mustache, and kind of over-worked-world-on-his-shoulders everyman look I sometimes think he could be cast as the long-suffering dad on some family-orientated sitcom.
“Who says it should be?” chimes in Terrance Young from his seat by a table at the perimeter of the room. Everyone calls him T.J. I can always count on him for a healthy dose of skepticism or for a bit of arcana.
“That’s a good point,” I reply, casting Young a knowing look. “We’ll have to explore that question.”
I’m thrilled by these comments. Merritt couldn’t have known it when he mentioned the Mafia, but when I read these chapters I always think of The Godfather. He and the others had truly understood the opening chapters of 1 Kings, the last days of the reign of King David.
The Bible details an attempted palace coup. Israel’s great monarch has grown old and frail; he lies shivering in his bed. One of his sons, Adonijah son of Haggith, observing his father’s decline, decides to seize the throne. He recruits his father’s military commander, Joab, and Abiathar the priest to his cause, and arranges a massive sacrificial feast to declare himself king, inviting his new supporters, his brothers, and the men of Judah. He does not summon his half-brother Solomon.
The prophet Nathan is quick to see the imminent danger, and plans accordingly, recruiting Bathsheba to inform the king about the conspiracy. The king’s wife tells him of Adonijah’s actions, predicting that when he dies, her life and the life of her son will be in jeopardy. Alarmed by the report, the old king rouses himself from his bed and springs into action, arranging for a ceremony to proclaim Solomon king over Israel and Judah. When the news of Solomon’s sudden coronation reaches Adonijah’s feast, his guests melt away in terror and the would-be usurper flees to the Tent of Meeting, grabbing the horns of the altar for protection. Informed of Adonijah’s actions, Solomon magnanimously (so it seems at the moment) offers refuge to his brother. And when he appears bowing before him, the King simply tells him to “Go home.”
It is a lean and magnificent bit of storytelling, and the class is as attuned to the subtlety of the composition—but even more taken by the sheer Machiavellian character of the events. Joab, the king’s old general, most likely didn’t need much convincing, Merritt says; wizened and cunning military man that Joab is, he likely deliberated upon which way the current winds were blowing, and threw his considerable weight behind Adonijah’s attempted coup. Perhaps, too, the general still resented David’s behavior after the death of Absalom, those long simmering tensions with his boss finally finding a suitable outlet in the prospect of a new regime. But doubtless Adonijah’s brothers needed a bit more persuading to come over to his side. After all, might they not have their own designs on the crown? How did Adonijah manage to rally their support?
The text does not say explicitly, but Merritt has a suggestion: “It’s what’s called on the street a ‘soft lean’,” he says, offering his own gloss on the pressure Adonijah exerted on his siblings when he invites them to the feast—one that is both a bribe and a not-so-veiled threat.
“What’s that?” I expect someone to poke fun of my ignorance, but no one does. Instead, Merritt holds forth. “It is like when you own a shop and someone comes in and says, you know, my colleague will stop by here next week, and it would be good for you to give him a bit of a gratuity when he does.” He emphasizes the word gratuity. I get the hint.
The others agree with this interpretation, and the discussion now turns to the correspondences between the biblical story and life on the street—how muscle is displayed in both venues.
The guys describe their previous experiences, explaining the manner in which gangs operate to gain and hold on to their turf, the ways in which one makes sure a competitor is aware of his dominance. The succession narrative speaks of things that they could immediately understand and relate to; their attention is riveted by the Bible’s straightforward portrayal of the brutal realities of power, it’s refusal to sugarcoat the story of the struggle for the succession of the throne and willingness to show even its heroes in a darkly realistic light.
For the students, it’s an important lesson in just the kind of book the Bible can be. And for me, it’s another evening of teaching at the Maryland Correctional Institution.”
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/10/teaching-the-bible-in-prison/410014/

When God anointed Jehu as King. He carried out what God commanded and what Machiavelli recommended. Swift and necessary cruelties in order to secure power. First immediately destroy the House of Ahab by killing all his sons and other male descendants, kill Jezebel. And then after luring all the Prophets of Baal into a single place have them all massacred.
There is more. But even the Biblical Pattern as outlined in the Book of Kings and Chronicles is that of swift necessary destruction called cruelties without being excessive.

Rick Beato runs an interesting music website with a sizeable audience. The link is him conducting an interview with Sting.

Now, Beato appears to be a trained musician. He will talk about scales and chord progressions. He will, for example, reference one of Sting’s songs as following the Aeolian mode and such. Sting’s mannerisms betray that he simply has little to no idea what Beato is talking about. Moreover, Sting appeared to struggle playing and singing his own music, to the point where the accompanying guitarist, Dominic Miller, is looking at him with a “c’mon, you can do it” expression.

You really have to wonder how much of Sting’s music was written at Langley.

I can confirm that Rick Beato is very interesting and very well informed. He knows music theory. For those who haven’t heard of him, he does videos where he takes apart well known popular songs almost as thoroughly as a music professors will take apart Beethoven.
