My assumption was not that he was getting paid, but rather he was just allowed to live the LARP of a billionaire investor as part of his cover using money that would drift back to Cabal. I have wondered if he was recruited because he was caught teaching calculus without really having any understanding of it and trying to lay 14 year olds.
