Last night I watched Mean Girls for the first time. Really good movie, actually promotes a positive moral vision, which is rare these days. The story involves a girl who leaves homeschooling for public school, and winds up getting wrapped up into the temptation of gossip.

The law is more clear. The standard of proof is the highest (beyond a reasonable doubt) and you have many more clear cut rights that you don’t necessarily have in a civil case (like right to confront your accusers, right to jury, right to speedy trial, etc.)
Most traffic tickets, for example, are treated as civil cases rather than criminal for this reason.
