Then again, these days, look at all these spies, who just love, love, love our democracy.

CIA Officer Larry Johnson cotes discrepancies with the leaking document story – He says, a kid that age was never allowed in the SCIFS he or his fellow intel worked in, an Air Force expert said the kid should never have been in there without a commander present to watch him, there would never have been CIA reports in the Air Force SCIF, and the media is saying there are 300 pages leaked but nobody has seen more than 18. You wonder if the kid even was in that Discord server, or if he ever heard of any of this. It could have all been made up framing him for some purpose.
If he did leak it though, this is exactly how intel operates. They watch everyone. They would see this kid’s first violation on Discord to somebody. Others who never violated, or who were ID’d as non-violators would simply be ignored as this kid was focused on. They would send their people in to the Discord provoke him further. “You don’t know what you are talking about!” “You’re lying!” “You have no proof!” Shrinks would advise on how best to threaten his ego, threaten his status in the group. I do not know what any of that means, just seems an odd path if he was plugged in at the beginning, which I always assumed from his shady, maybe mil-intel history. I always find it fascinating, where these people come from, and (if we viewed ourselves as freedom-loving Americans) what they view themselves as belonging to, that makes a Stasi-shadow-dictatorship-panopticon appear to them so great and worthy of sacrifice, so long as they get to do the dictatoring.

AFAIAC, it just needs a Wilson Combat flat-wire recoil spring kit. Your mileage will vary. The “customize Finish” button allows you to cycle through different ares of the pistol, including options like nitrided barrel, bushing, etc. I don’t like shiny stainless on guns.
I have to buy a $3,800 spindle and about $750 in 1045 ground shaft for MK2, but after that if the US dollar has ANY value left by end of Summer I’m hoping I can afford one of these because I also have to buy some titanium. I’m not sure about machining a gas block for AR15’s that I would actually want because nobody else makes one – not sure if I need heat treated 4140 or can get away with 1018 – but I KNOW that I want the silencer to be titanium. Titanium gas block would be great too, but that’s getting VERY expensive. These are all machining projects I have in the que waiting for MK2.
Can you explain the appeal of a single handgun that is $1,400 versus buying 2-3 glocks / glock clones and having redundancy, etc in your lineup? The 1911 monomania I see online just doesn’t seem practical at the end of the day if the goal is to make bang bang and kill bad people, but I’m not a super avid gun guy, just care about the defensive aspect of it.
Yes I can, but it will take me a bit.
First, I have ONE AR15. Instead of building 2 or 3 mediocre rifles I built ONE GOOD ONE with some very high dollar parts and it just runs. I can use only one rifle at a time, so why have 2 or 3? For “redundancy” I keep a spare bolt in the grip storage in case the extractor breaks, or even the bolt itself at the cam pin hole, which are the most likely failures on the platform. I chose a trigger that is a sealed unit and is as close to fail-proof as possible, which is a running theme on the whole rifle. Parts chosen for durability/reliability rather than group size.
Now why the 1911? And these days an American made 1911 at $1400 is an entry level 1911, just so we’re clear. If all you want is a reliable 9mm pistol that goes bang every time, go down to a gun store and rent every striker-fired pistol they have, and my guess is that you’ll end up with either an M&P2.0 or a CZP10 because they point correctly(like a 1911) and have decent triggers out of the box as far as strikers go and are cheaper than Glock. Glocks have an issue where they slant down at an angle in the hand forcing the shooter to correct for it, leaving a training scar. If you start on a Glock, you won’t notice it until you try to shoot something else and you have trouble lining the sights up. For all of that, the Glock pistol itself is obviously just fine as a serviceable side arm.
Now back to the 1911/2011. The trigger on a 1911 properly tuned is so good that the gun will lie to you about how good of a shooter you are. The gun’s weight is balanced just right that you slip into a rhythm with it easily. It’s a whole bunch of little things that stack up to it just being a smoother shooting platform than the others. These things make it the favorite of competition shooters, and it’s so good that we all overlook that the platform requires more cleaning, frequent lubrication, potential parts breakage with replacement parts that usually need hand fitting, a grip safety that could have been deleted 100 years ago and nobody would notice, and a thumb safety that you have to train for. Plus the springs have to be changed out more often as well as the extractor.
The 1911/2011 is not for everyone in the same way a Ford GT40 is not for everyone, and in fact most are much better served with the gun equivalent of a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry – the M&P2,0 or the Glock19.

People who think they’re plating up in any realistic home defense scenario are delusional. Same for putting on multiple pieces of kit (pistol belt, rifle, bandolier, etc)
You’re going to have seconds, not a minute to get ready. Unless you have serious advanced warning systems, but then you have alternatives to avoid the gunfight entirely.

Actually, they’ve found in a home invasion that the majority of cases the homeowner has time to go from room to room and grab whatever before facing the threat because breaking into the house is really noisy and the intruders don’t know the house. Like most good defensive shoots, you don’t hear about them because it goes against the narrative. Out and about say walking down the street YES that time goes away to basically nothing.
Oh, and the advice the video ends with, BUY A DOG. The dog will give you all the warning you need.
If the gear is actually where it should be, a battle belt is 5 seconds. Even shucking into a plate carrier is another five seconds. (You don’t need to worry about strapping everything down, just get it over your head and centered.)
I’ve done the Minuteman drill. I can have my full battle rattle on in less than 60 seconds. Armor, belt and suspenders (the two quickest parts) assault pack, eye-pro, head cover and rifle. The closet everything lives in is on the way to my three most likely POE, and all I really intend to get is the battle belt and rifle. I don’t even intend to buckle the belt, just throw the suspenders over my shoulders.
If I had a modern plate carrier rather than a 25 year old IIIA vest, I would probably throw the armor on.
Also, how fast do you think the home invaders are going to be reacting? They aren’t coming in intending to shoot everyone. They aren’t a trained stack. They are thugs who think that home invasions are a good return on investment. If they ARE a professional stack, they aren’t going to be moving any faster, because they know that you are armed and belligerent. They have to clear your place room by room to get to you, and I know where ALL the fatal funnels are, and what is and isn’t cover.
This might potentially be bad info. I remember a case of a guy who was a dealer transporting a fully automatic AR, a Ruger, of all things, IIRC, when some nut on the road wantonly attacked him and his family. He evaded as best he could, driving off a side road, but finally got cornered by a genuine lunatic, got out of the car, pulled out the AR, and gave the perp one last chance to walk away. The perp said something like “I don’t care about your gun” and charged him, and he shot the guy, full auto burst.
It was clearly self defense, but to be a prick, the DA charged him with everything, down to menacing and reckless endangerment, and because the gun was not a regular gun, but one classed under NFA rules, there was some huge Federal adder-on for using an NFA weapon in the commission of a crime, which meant he was looking at 50 years, or life, or some ridiculous sentence, from the adder-on, even if the jury just convicted of something as minor as menacing, and he only got probation from that.
The lawyer writing the piece made the case to try, if at all possible, to never use SBRs, SBS’s, AOWs, Cans, or anything of the like for self defense, because it complicates things immensely, and gives DA’s all sorts of ways to fuck you up for nothing.
Right now with the push to ban braces is going probably going to exacerbate this issue. At some point however, we all have to understand that we live in a fundamentally unjust society where self-defense is punished wherever possible either criminally or civilly and you have to decide which risk you’d rather take. Where I live in Oregon I will prosecuted for failing to flee, because defense of property is not a legal reason to use lethal force here. We are a Duty to Flee state, so I’m screwed no matter what I do if I have to pull a trigger on somebody. It’s kind of liberating having no hope.
Outlaw says his setup allows him to control 100 yards in every direction and the AR has been used primarily as a coyote gun because they come that close to the house. He also goes on at length for why a handgun is probably more practical even though the rifle is ALWAYS better tactically because they are just easier to shoot well. I agree with that. The handgun is easier to maneuver and keep on the nightstand, but more difficult to get hits with, especially under stress.
I forgot the last bit of advice he gives, and that is to buy a big DOG, which is probably the most effective security system you can own.
