On this site I once described narcissist-masking.
Narcissists want to trigger you. They want you totally freaked out, and as one study from an earlier post showed, narcissists actually enjoy seeing others unhappy. To them triggering others and creating misery is a game. The flip side is that they do not want you to see them triggered, because that would be you winning the game.
One thing I have noticed as I have gone around trying to trigger narcissists is that when I hit their button and their amygdala pops, they will often try to mask the angst with a specific expression that seems somewhat consistent among them.
The masking facial expression is very usual. Basically they pull the corners of their mouths out to each side as far as they can, stretching their mouth out horizontally, while the rest of their face tries to look clueless or blank. It is a very strange expression, which will seem even stranger if you try to make it yourself. Do that, and you will not be able to imagine the cognitive state that is making the narcissist make the face.
Here is Senator Al Franken trying to look calm, cool, collected, and carefree with his feet up on a desk, sent in by a reader:
Here is a closeup of the expression:
In your mind, remove his glasses, and then make that expression yourself, complete with the raised eyebrows, while looking in a mirror. I can make most facial expressions, and get a feel for the person’s emotional state. I can even visualize how they will see and feel various situations. But when I make this face in a mirror, the emotional chaos I visualize is so disorganized that my brain almost locks up. That is a narcissist who is all fucked up inside, desperately trying to put on a neutral expression so you will not see his upset and irritation.
He is bent on masking his upset, because in his life he goes around upsetting people and feeling good laughing at them. Because he assumes you are just like him, in his mind if you were to see his upset you would laugh at him and feel good. To a narcissist, the mere thought of that is agony. That is losing the game. So rather than give you that enjoyment, they make this face. I have no idea if they think they look relaxed and cool, or if they know it looks fucked up and they just feel it is better than you seeing an honest expression of their real mental state, which would probably look like something out of Jim Carey’s The Mask. Either way, I never see this face without laughing uproariously.
Of course, it is somewhat sobering to think that such a fucked up brain was elected to one of the 102 most powerful positions in our country. Obviously it is no coincidence that a cannibalistic Apocalypse awaits our nation. Indeed, given this, it may very well be a good thing. Clearly we need Darwinian Selection now more than ever.
If you ever see this face in the course of hijacking a narcissist, the next move is to begin laughing, and making fun of their “clearly upset” state. Make it clear that you know they are triggered, you are enjoying it, and thus you are winning the game. They will blow.
The picture is amusing, to the extent it would appear to show that Trump has all leftists in the midst of major amygdala hijacks – and they are desperate to prevent us from knowing. Here this clown is merely doing an interview with a friendly outlet like the NY Times, and he looks positively insane.
Now is the time to let the left know we know, and begin making fun of them. Our enjoyment is their misery.
Addendum: I do enjoy seeing this face, but I realized after posting this that I need to attach a warning label to this image. In my experience, this face is a sign of serious mental illness, combined with a very deceptive and manipulative psychology. If you see it, you are seeing real danger. If a relative makes it, then they are in enough agony and they are innately unbalanced enough that they might be putting pesticide products in your food, spiking your thermos, and lacing your coffee beans with stuff to make you sick. This is a face which is both, playing the “Lets make you more miserable than me” game, and losing at that game in a way that is so painful they are capable of anything. If you see this face, by all means enjoy the hijack. But if they have access to food, or could sabotage your car, or could do any of a myriad of other things to you behind your back to rectify this “loss,” be keenly aware that they will. Never underestimate the degree of insanity this face betrays, or to what extent it will go to win the game it is playing.
Your life could depend upon it.

from the source article:
“The resting pout of his mouth — the Baby Huey countenance to match his honking voice — has assumed more of a smirk. Franken is not good at masking emotions. He cries easily and can become impatient and never bothered much to disguise his contempt for adversaries, at least until he arrived in the Senate, whose hidebound traditions of decorum demanded at least an honest effort.”

One time a rather short narcissist boss exploded in a rage at me after I had tried to ask one of his workers for help without asking him first for permission. I smiled at him from the stratosphere which drove him even nutser (I am more than 2 heads taller than he). I just couldn’t take him serious. I just smiled and said, sorry, boss, I didn’t know it’s so serious. The rage!
Yes, the more trivial you make it sound, the more flustered they get!
I saw a video on YouTube months back, of some protest or such. It wasn’t that big, maybe twenty or so students, mostly female, mostly black, standing holding signs in a building, most likely college-related. One of the white girls was asked by a young man recording the video what they were protesting. The girl did her spiel about the protest, then suddenly flashed THAT very expression you just described! The only difference was she flung her face forward and dog-bobbed her head quickly one way, then the other. Then she popped back into her deathly serious face, like nothing had happened. I was like WTF was THAT?! I had to rewatch to convince myself I hadn’t imagined it. I actually wondered if she had a form of Tourettes or something. But now I know…she was triggered.
Yep.
Al Franken has always reminded me of one of H.P. Lovecraft’s human/amphibian hybrids out of Innsmouth. The expression you’re seeing is just the retraction of his tongue after a near-miss on a low-flying insect.
LOL.
This is possibly the most hilarious thing I’ve ever read. I’m sharing it with loved ones and will continue sharing. Thanks, and thank you for your insights through the blog in general. I employed amygdala stimulating techniques and have never seen libs back down or become incoherent so quickly.
Thank you.
When I saw the cover of his new book, I knew then and there this guy’s a narcissist. Check it out here:

The title cracks me up! And now, he’s joining Weinstein, et al, in the groper’s club.
