Is Zika Adapting To Humans In Isolated Cases?

Now there is female to male sexual transmission:

Previous studies of sexual transmission of Zika have suggested that the virus can survive for up to six months in semen…

According to a May case study published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases… “Our findings raise the threat of a woman potentially becoming a chronic Zika virus carrier, with the female genital tract persistently expressing the virus RNA,” the researchers wrote in that study. “Additional studies are underway to answer those essential questions and to assess what would then be the consequences for women of child-bearing age.”

One case is not a trend, but if it begins to spread sexually this trait will be favored, especially among gays, where it will be able to spread in all directions.

Then there was this:

Earlier this month, The Washington Post reported on the first Zika-related death in the continental U.S., an elderly man in Utah who had an underlying health condition and traveled to a region affected by Zika virus earlier this year. Today (July 18), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced its investigation of the case of a relative of the deceased Utah patient, who apparently contracted the virus while caring for the elderly man…

The elderly man had 100,000 times the normal levels of virus in his blood near the time of his death, according to the CDC.

You have to wonder if the virus was hotter than normal, and that contributed to its ability to jump without sexual contact or a mosquito.

As Zika continues to burn, it will adapt. Right now, it isn’t prolific enough for these lone adaptations to take off. If it grows prolific, and these hotter versions begin to spread more widely though, the apocalypse could begin much sooner than one would think given present circumstances. My guess is that happens in the gay community, once it works its way in there. If it can still move via mosquito, and worse if it grows hotter, it would be as if AIDS had happened, and then spread from gays to straights by mosquito. The economic effects of such a situation could be harsh.

The world is a house of cards, and fate is pulling cards faster and faster as time goes on. There is no telling which one will bring the house down, but sooner or later, one of them will.
