Imagine A Defective Amygdala

I want you to picture something. You are this guy, who actually somehow manages to make Russell Brand look imposing.

You are at a party with this guy, 6″2, 240lb former NFL player turned actor Terry Crews, and his wife:

Try to picture the idea of walking up to Terry and grabbing his privates, with no warning. Now imagine that all the potential flags your brain would throw up don’t happen. No disgust, no embarrassment, no thinking you might be picking your teeth up off the ground. Your brain doesn’t offer any hint that such an idea might be a bad idea in any way.

The short pudgy guy at the top actually thought that was a good enough idea to go and do it. His amygdala never fired off. No hint it was a bad idea:

Crews disclosed, in a series of tweets on Oct. 10, that he was groped last year at a Hollywood event by a “high-level” executive. Crews wrote that he was at a function with his wife when the Hollywood executive came over and grabbed his “privates” and that the alleged assailant then “grinned like a jerk” when Crews asked what he was doing…

That is the way the leftist brain works. Things which jump out at us, which shock us, which horrify us register in the leftist mind as just mildly stimulating. Imagine millions of Muslims from ISIS hotspots moving into our nations. We see horror. They see excitement and stimulation. It is like a roller coaster ride, or a scary movie. Nothing bad will really happen, we just get to enjoy the thrill.

Homosexuality is the same thing. Heterosexual sex is mildly stimulating to heterosexuals. However homosexual sex is shocking to them, to the point of disgust and revulsion. But as you head to the rabbity end of the spectrum, the preference for women first becomes more masculine, and eventually shifts over into trannies, and ultimately to outright men, as normal feminine women become intolerably boring to the stimuli-deadened leftist amygdalae. Take it to the extreme by adding a dopamine agonist like coke, and short pudgy gays are walking up to Terry Crews and grabbing him by the crotch without warning, and then grinning like idiots. What shocks and horrifies our amygdalae is merely a mildly stimulating experience to threat-blind leftist amygdalae.

The only place where this seems to reverse is in actual personal harm which cannot be ignored, presumably because the amygdala is a planning organ that triggers the production of cognitive pain, while actual cognitive pain is produced in the ACC. The key to a good amygdala hijack is making the objectionable idea you present inescapable, so nothing, from factual rebuttal to outright denial is possible, and the deadened amygdala has to pass the call for aversive stimulus to the ACC.

That is why liberals always try to have a rebuttal, no matter how stupid. That is why “settled science” is supposed to be so triggering to us, and why leftists focus on trying to make their victories seem inescapable, as part of some sort of inevitable “progress.” And it is why when things turn violent leftists go possum and drop to the floor in a catatonic state.

Somewhere in the leftist brain is a separator which divides the possible, but possibly deniable, from the unavoidable and undeniable. Let an objectionable idea fall on one side of that barrier and it will be totally ignored by the leftist amygdala. But let it fall just a nanometer away on the other side of that barrier, and it is the stuff of stroked-out, beyond-terrifying amygdala-hijacking nightmares that nobody can possibly imagine.

We really need to devote more energy to discerning what the exact cognitive details of stimuli are which separates the potential from the established in the minds of the leftists, because that is the key to binding the leftist mind to reality, and either reestablishing their sanity, or at least amygdala hijacking them into frothing, raving lunatics, the likes of which even Bram Stroker could not have imagined.
