Hurricanes Give Us Glimpses Of Apocalypse

Some accounts:

At dawn, people began to gather, quietly planning for survival after Hurricane Irma.

They started with the grocery stores, scavenging what they needed for sustenance: water, crackers, fruit.

But by nightfall on Thursday, what had been a search for food took a more menacing turn, as groups of looters, some of them armed, swooped in and took whatever of value was left: electronics, appliances and vehicles.

“All the food is gone now,” Jacques Charbonnier, a 63-year-old resident of St. Martin, said in an interview on Sunday. “People are fighting in the streets for what is left.”

Other accounts:

St.Thomas resident Mike Laplac on Monday said that looters are robbing residents using machetes and guns in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma pummeling the Caribbean island.

“I actually know of eight people that were robbed in broad daylight with machetes for everything they had in their vehicles, including their fuel. Yesterday we spent about 3 ½ hours in a line for fuel, and machetes were pulled there as well.

And more:

Business owners on one of the Caribbean islands ravaged by Hurricane Irma say the government needs to send in the Marines — literally — and increase patrols to combat the thieves and looters running rampant at Sint Maarten’s shopping destination.

Elsewhere on the island, men armed with guns and machetes are terrorizing residents and tourists alike, while some wait on piers to steal the bounty of boats and ships carrying aid to the devastated community…

On Frontstreet, a shopping destination for the thousands of tourists who arrive via cruise ships each year, looters broke into a customs office and stole arms, according to reports.

Anthea Turner, a tourism and cruise expert who has worked with business owners on St. Martin for more than 19 years, told Fox News on Tuesday that looters were going storefront to storefront stealing all they could…

[Tweet] “They are completely isolated and there are CRIMINALS carrying GUNS AND KNIVES SHOOTING and looting all over! NOTHING IS WORKING, THERE ARE NO RULES, THERE IS NO LAW AND NO PROTECTION RIGHT NOW!”…

One solider said he was stopping attempted lootings every ten minutes, the Daily Mail reported…

“We heard of people coming into different hotels posing as tourists and stealing everything,” he said…

About 1,500 French troops, police and emergency workers are already on the ground and 500 others are expected to arrive in the coming days, French authorities said.

… looters still have more control of the streets than the police…

In the British Virgin Islands, Sir Alan Duncan, the UK’s foreign minister, said more than 100 prisoners escaped when Irma hit, the BBC reported…

Royal Marines have been sent to BVI to “protect the Governor,” he added.

Notice the themes. A disarmed populace. Shortage of supplies. Stores are immediately looted clean, just in case there are no more supplies coming. Armed criminals, many armed with service-grade weapons stolen from government armories. They stage ambushes where supplies will come in. They break confederates out of prison to increase their numbers. The protective forces are diverted to the politicians. The law-abiding populace is helpless, and supplies can’t get in without a major military deployment.

What happens is the initial shock of the event hits amygdalae, and sends them into overdrive. Once amygdalae are lit up and firing, they will drive extreme actions you would never normally see. Those extreme actions will feed amygdalae everywhere else, and drive even crazier action.

Desperation is merely high amygdala, and it can almost be generated as a sort of “synthetic” desperation, unrelated to need. If you create high enough amygdala, even if just through excitement, perception, and group-dynamics, the threshold required to produce desperate action can plummet. Alone you might do this type of thing if your life depended on it. But spend 12 hours with your amygdala facing potential death in a hurricane, exit the house to armed people doing violence, and feel the mixture of threat, uncertainty, and excitement of no authority to protect anyone, that will lower the threshold to this type of insanity.

If there is a major economic collapse, and there certainly will be, that is what the cities will look like. They are set up for it from the dependency on government for food, power, heat, cooling, water, and even garbage disposal and self defense. Even worse, the populations are just too dense to supply themselves with food in a self-sustaining manner, and what is brought in will have to navigate set, predictable pathways.

These Caribbean Islands are surrounded by bathwater-temperature, crystal clear water filled with fish, and rock lobsters, and conchs, and crabs, all sorts of other potential food. New York City is all concrete and steel, with maybe three days worth of rats to eat, if you can catch them. From there, it will be chaos, with no food or supplies, no utilities, and floods of rabbit refugees desperate to get out.

Now contrast that with the south, where the Cajun Navy joins with regular Texans to save the day on a moment’s notice, and people police their own neighborhoods with guns effortlessly to stop all looting.

What do rabbits do? They migrate. My guess is a feature of the collapse will be a flood of rabbit refugees from the cities, flooding into the rural areas. They will look so helpless, and they will be so conciliatory and feign such gratefulness you won’t initially be able to kill them.

But let them stay, and they will gravitate to government and the bureaucracy, they will team with local rabbits to import criminal savages for compassion’s sake, and before long the new rabbit army will try to legally tie down their new hosts and recreate the same socialist shitholes they just fled from, using the money, safety, and success of their hosts to do it.

If the rural are wise, they will kill off the rabbits and drive them back where they came from at first sight.

Spread r/K Theory, because there is no beautiful paradise that Apocalypse can’t make terrifying

This. When SHTF there is no room for sympathy. Its you or them. It always is, sooner or latter. Fuck the rabbits, long live the wolves.

It shouldn’t be all that hard to recognize the fleeing rabbits or the fleeing K-strategists. The Ks will have made sensible preparations, so if they arrive in rural areas with clear signs of having prepared–even if incompletely–and if they are able to add something to the place where they hope to take refuge, the you can probably be sure that they are Ks. But those arriving in panic and clearly not having made any preparations whatsoever and merely asking for “help,” can probably be driven away without troubling one’s conscience.

They’ll all be diseased. Shoot on sight. Don’t discriminate.
