Everywhere you look is evidence of amygdala dysfunction. It is no coincidence that one of the fundamental hallmarks of amygdala damage is the inability to perceive threats in other individuals, and that the rabbits are totally threat-blind. In France, a French artist tried to create a Coexist Mural in a Muslim area, only to be beaten by the coexisting Muslim population. I’ll bet he still doesn’t know any better.
Meanwhile, in America, we see liberals unable to grasp that letting the Muslim Brotherhood infiltrate our intelligence agencies might be bad. I know some of these liberals personally, and there is no talking to them about threats. Until violence is unavoidable, they will cling to their delusions of safety, and deny that any threat is possible.
Of course, K-selection approaches. Vox was discussing the rising numbers of suicides among males – a thread in which a couple of Vox’s posters discussed what it is like to be so ambivalent towards life, death means nothing to you.
Even as our males are beginning to not care whether they live or die, anger is rising in the populace as well. Here is an article on how anger “disorders” were rising back in 2006. Here is a more recent article on how drivers feeling “uncontrollable anger toward another driver” has doubled since 2005. That rising anger level is not limited to just driving.
So to recap, people feeling “uncontrollable rage” is rising dramatically over numbers which were already a dramatic rise. People who don’t give a damn whether they live or die, or even prefer death to the boredom around us, is rising dramatically. Gun purchases are at all time highs. Ammo is being bought to such a degree that we are still seeing high prices and periodic shortages. Western Civilization has been infused with a hostile Muslim population which will periodically see its members go on mass murder sprees for no real reason at all. Incidents of lower class black mobs doing social-media-coordinated violence is on the rise. Finally, not only do we have a ton of veterans of the War on Terror in our populations, we have an entire generation who has killed billions of people in videogames, acclimatizing them to the idea of visiting violence upon other human beings with the most deadly weapons of war.
Have no doubts – an ancient evolved mechanism within human brains is being activated. Violent natures are being constructed from the ether of the mind by subtle, subconscious analyses of our environment. The populace is being prepared for bloodshed and anarchy without even knowing it, and it would appear the rabbits are setting the stage to maximize the mayhem.
All of this is occurring as an economic collapse of unprecedented proportions is stalking our nation, and threatening to collapse our government without warning. This is what K-selection looks like as it approaches, and it is what the old curse meant when it said “interesting times.”
If any reader is considering cashing out through suicide, I’d advise hanging in there. You’re definitely gonna want to see this.
On driving anger — I particularly have noticed how the quality of driving has gone down, which I think contributes to the anger. People — especially r-heavy “populations” — are increasingly inconsiderate and dangerous here in North Texas. They engage in “couldn’t be bothered” behavior like not signaling, lack of lane control, texting/phoning (especially the reality television driven habit of speaking into the speakerphone 3 inches from your face), and generally not giving a damn about being in a two ton deadly weapon with dozens of other two ton deadly weapons around you.
This behavior was known but uncommon around here a decade ago. Now it is the rule more than the exception.
Interestingly, T. gondii infection, a parasite which damages the amygdala, is positively associated with car accidents. It is theorized that as the amygdala is damaged, it becomes less able to fluidly prioritize data, and guide reaction in real time. If amygdalae are atrophying as the nation declines due to comfort and prosperity, it could produce a similar effect, akin to driving while distracted.
“Coexist” is a popular bumper sticker, and it sends an important message:
“Go ahead and carjack me; I don’t have a gun, and I understand that you’re robbing (and possibly raping and killing) me only because those greedy racist Rethuglicans won’t pay you a living wage.”
Unless it is this Coexist sticker, which I would actually consider putting on my car.
Might it be possible to use situational awareness training, embedded in a video game, as a sort of hack to stimulate amygdala development?
I’m not sure. It is an interesting idea, and I have wondered if the prevalence of things like Grand Theft Auto have created a generation of people who will segue into a state of anarchy much better than they would have absent that conditioning during childhood. I have suspected the ambivalence towards Assault Weapons bans may have something to do with so many having used such weapons in games, to the point they are seen now as simply tools to use should things turn less civilized, and even desirable items they would like to acquire for real some day, due to their utility.
The real problem is there is no training the amygdala like seeing a harbinger of bad, missing it, enduring consequences that are so awful you can barely take them, and then seeing the harbinger again and avoiding the bad consequences. If everyone today had lived for five years through Depression-era circumstances, I’d bet we’d elect much wiser politicians, and demand more sound economic policy. But that pathway was just never laid down in the amygdala, so nobody is driven to care. “So we elected Obama – what’s the worst that could happen?”
But if the consequence is severe enough to develop such a strong amygdala pathway, it is probably unpleasant enough most would turn off the videogame, and just leave it. I still am not sure you can get people to voluntarily hack the amygdala due to that. It may be we just have to actually endure a harsher environment before we adapt our brain to it.
My thinking is that though people normally cannot be forced into an extreme hardship scenario, nor will they voluntarily undergo an accurate simulation of it, it might still be possible to design a video game around the premise of seeing how much amygdala stimulation can be delivered in a game while still being seen as a game. The point that I am curious about is, that since situational awareness accounts for a large part of amygdala function, could a game designed to exercise situational awareness produce a transferable benefit for players? Wax on, wax off.
I’ve been thinking about this, and what might work well is a game which repeatedly denigrates leftist traits, like weakness, cowardice, disloyalty, etc. It is possible a game which simulates violence or requires situational awareness, but I suspect nothing can really simulate the unique nature of unavoidable fear and constant stress. Once that begins, things will move quickly to the right.
