I saw this Soldier on Reddit, and he was too impressive an example to not share:
Col. Gregory D. Gadson , #USMA Class of ’89, relinquished command of USAG Fort Belvoir yesterday and is retiring after 25 years of distinguished service. After losing both legs in combat, he went on to become the first double-amputee to command a U.S. Army installation.
He actually had a star turn acting in the movie Battleship as a freshly disabled vet who was having difficulty adjusting to his injury until the aliens showed up and he was able to get into the battle.
These guys blaze paths they probably never even recognize, making life better for millions of other Americans they will never know. When I was younger, the thought of losing both legs, or sustaining any major disabling injury would have frightened me immensely. I would have thought it was the end of any ability in life.
But when you see so many guys who are literally the cream of the crop in society, like an elite club, just cruising right along as if nothing happened, getting back up in the saddle and making it all work, it makes those injuries seem partly like mere speed bumps on the way to kicking ass in life, and partly like badges of greatness. I’ll bet there have been a ton of people in civilian life, as well as later vets, who have endured those injuries, and the knowledge men like this not only overcame the injury but soared with it has brought light into what without these men’s examples, would have been very dark times.
K lives off the examples K’s set for the next generation. Although exemplary among K’s, Gadson is far from alone. Never lose hope in K. Its river runs wide and deep in our species, it is pure, unadulterated greatness flowing through it.
Which is good because with what is coming, that is exactly what is needed.
Thanks for posting. This is inspirational. Former r here, now a hardcore K. 6 months of unemployment caused the switch in my politics. Never understood it till I found this blog. Keep up the good work.
Impressive guy. I wonder how he feels about former Pres. Obama.
Col. Gadson also had a part in the recent movie “Battleship”

It’s sometimes difficult to do a cross-racial physiognomy check for r/k tendencies. The bone structure and facial expressions of many non-whites are different enough from whites that it’s difficult to get a “read” on them with any confidence. But with guys like Col. Gadson, Sheriff Clarke, and Col. Allen West, the K is so strong that it shines out like a laser beam.
You pretty much know where these guys stand just by looking at them.
