Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm whose Democrat-financed Russia dossier fueled an FBI investigation into Donald Trump, pitched other stories about the Republican presidential candidate to Washington reporters, including an attempt to tie him to a convicted pedophile who was once buddies with former President Bill Clinton.
Journalist sources told The Washington Times that Fusion founder Glenn Simpson pushed the idea of a close relationship between Mr. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, who pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting sex from an underage girl.
The Trump-Epstein link appears purely social, far short of Mr. Clinton’s 20-plus plane rides on Epstein’s “Lolita Express” private jet around the globe in the early 2000s.
Ken Silverstein, the reporter who ultimately wrote an Epstein-Trump report, confirmed to The Times that Fusion had sourced the story. Mr. Silverstein, founder and editor of WashingtonBabylon.com who wrote the story for Vice.com, defended Mr. Simpson as a solid source of information that must first be confirmed.
For years, Fusion GPS has been an influential hidden hand in Washington, with entree into the city’s most powerful news bureaus.
So the idea that Donald Trump hired Russian prostitutes to urinate on a bed Obama slept on is perfectly plausible. Melania, of all people, as a hooker is perfectly plausible. Trump’s campaign reaching out to Putin, and asking him to have FSB and GRU lend operational support to the Trump campaign is perfectly plausible. But the idea Donald was friends with pedophile Jeffery Epstein, who he had crossed paths with in NY high society, was just too ridiculous to air?
My assumption had been the reporters behind Fusion were likely ex-Deep State intel, maybe even CIA, who had carried the deep state torch in the media, before going private. This makes them look more out of the loop however.
I wouldn’t have wasted my time on this, because I would have assumed Epstein had juice. Either he was a failed, and potentially embarrassing intel operation by Deep State designed to build out their networks among the influential, or he was running his own intel game, and managed to snag somebody high enough in Deep State that he was now under Deep State protection. Look at how local PD had Epstein dead to rights, and how he skated, free as a bird.
Local PD and prosecutors would be relentless in their quest to nail a pedophile. Only Deep State can pull the strings to put the brakes on that, and make everyone involved shut up about it.
Once you realize he is under Deep State protection, there is no use in trying to use him in the media. Deep State will shut that down too, because they will have people in critical areas just for the purposes of controlling vital outlets that information they want repressed might trickle out of.
That fusion didn’t realize this, is an encouraging sign they may not be as plugged in as they seemed.
