The biggest thing Donald Trump is doing is realigning public perceptions on immigration among the low-information voters, for whom being seen as moderate and reasonable is more important than issue analysis. Up until now, nobody has been able to force the ideas Trump has espoused into the mainstream media. As a result, the perception of what is moderate has drifted to the left, and we have been, up until now, unable to stop it.
This part of this book has a good example of the cognitive principle that Trump’s rhetoric is affecting in low information voters.
P is less committed to his actual opinion about the issue than the manner in which he presents himself to others. That is, P may wish to describe himself as moderate… P would have to change his opinion [in the presence of the new extreme idea]…This interpretation suggests that although very extreme views may be rejected, exposure to these views may positively affect the opinion of subjects who are more committed to describing themselves by certain verbal labels than to the point of view represented by these labels.
And it isn’t just low information voters who will be affected. The idiot RINOs in the GOP establishment will alter their opinions, and the stimuli which they present to the low information voter will become more conservative. As the low information voter’s opinions change, the GOPe will change even more, because now more people will be sliding toward that “extreme position” that our nation’s laws matter, and letting rapists and murderers in illegally is dumb. You see how it can snowball, all from one guy who speaks a single honest truth unapologetically.
Merely by espousing a vehemently pro-American, anti-illegal-immigrant view, he will shift the consciousness of the entire nation toward that view. The big winner will be every other candidate on the right, because Trump will shift the national consciousness toward their party, while absorbing all of their flack. In addition, he has called attention to illegal alien crimes which the media would have been all too happy to sweep under the carpet. That has further shifted public perception away from the media/liberal narrative – a narrative the GOPe has been complicit in.
Now he is targeting infections disease coming from Mexico, which is a clear mortal salience stimulus. As John Jost has shown, nothing can drive a population to open themselves to conservatism like mortal salience stimuli. Even better, Trump is right. From enterovirus D68, to the recent death from measles (which the US had declared eradicated, until it was brought back in from abroad), when pathogens suddenly emerge in a population, population mixing must be a suspect.
Add in his emphasis on competition, and how the liberals are rooting for our enemies and costing us our competitive ability, and he is hitting many of the K-selected buttons, bluntly and forcefully.
This directness and forcefulness has been missing from our national dialog for a long time. This is why we will now see a coordinated effort to tear Trump down, along the lines of what we saw with the Confederate flag. Presently the media is driving the population left by denying there is any opposition to leftism. The only conservatives in the mainstream today, from Brooks to Will, seem designed to simply tell the public that conservatives themselves support much of liberalism, and thus prevent the national dialog from being honestly balanced. The Speech Nazis enforce this rigorously by attacking anyone who deviates from their leftist script. Fortunately Trump has enough money he doesn’t have to care.
If we ever want to see anyone else be as bold and brazen in the face of the liberal media, it will be up to us to show future Conservatives that we will have the back of anyone who supports us, to the death. When Trump turns around in the midst of battle, he needs to see us. Merely by being there, guys like Trump, saying what Trump says, immeasurably advance our position, and the position of America – and not without significant personal cost.
Trump is now Gamergate, at the national level, for all practical purposes. You don’t have to love him, or even believe he is a great choice for President. But if we don’t support him unequivocally, Conservatism will endure an immense blow, because if he does go down, no conservative candidate will ever come out and speak the truth forcefully again. Every candidate now is watching closely to see what happens to him. If our position never gets spoken forcefully, the national perception of what is moderate will shift leftward, and we will get more Jeb Bush’s and Mitt Romney’s. Moreover I wouldn’t blame the RINOs, then. We would have proven ourselves unworthy of having a spokesman, through our refusal to support our spokesman the one time someone spoke up and unequivocally espoused our position. If we let Trump get crushed, we will deserve Jeb, Mitt, and every RINO who comes after.
These are many of the entities who have decided to try to boycott Donald Trump, or otherwise punish him for speaking out, their contact information, and copies of what I just sent them. I ignored Univision, since they are a Mexican entity, and therefore their sympathies will naturally align with foreigners before Americans. :
Macy’s [Link to site to report unpleasant online experience]
I will never buy another Macy’s product because I do not support “speech Nazis.” If a man wants to run for office, and voices a popular political opinion, that is his opinion. Attempts by corporations to police speech and punish political positions reek of totalitarianism and I will never support any such company.
Until I see Macy’s apologize to Donald Trump, I will assume it actively supports the illegality and crime which is inherent to the illegal immigration and criminality that Donald Trump opposes. I will implore all my friends to oppose Macy’s and boycott her products, until she begins to show the same loyalty to American citizens which she obviously shows to illegal immigrants such as the murderer of Kate Steinle.
Don’t think the right in this country will forget this.

I will never buy another Serta Mattress because I do not support “speech Nazis.” If a man wants to run for office, and voices a popular political opinion, that is his opinion. Attempts by corporations to police speech and punish political positions reek of totalitarianism and I will never support any such company.
Until I see Serta apologize to Donald Trump, I will assume it actively supports the illegality and crime which is inherent to the illegal immigration and criminality that Donald Trump opposes. I will implore all my friends to oppose Macy’s and boycott her products, until she begins to show the same loyalty to American citizens which she obviously shows to illegal immigrants such as the murderer of Kate Steinle.
Don’t think the right in this country will forget this attempt to silence one of our spokesmen, speaking for us.I doubt you’ll make up the lost business on illegal immigrant sales, so I hope you will see firsthand how dumb a move this was, and stay out of the public debate in the future.
Nascar [sitefeedback@nascar.com]
It pains me immensely to be writing this to Nascar, but I will now no longer be a Nascar fan, or attend Nascar events. For a long time, Nascar lured me in as much with with the image of good patriotic country folk having good natured country fun, as it did with exciting car races. I felt this was one form of entertainment that was not just blindly hedonistic, but which represented all that America represented – freedom, loyalty, and honor.
Imagine my surprise to find out Nascar leadership was not just leftist – it was actually composed of a bunch of Commie Speech-Nazis, who not only would punish someone for uttering anything conservative and pro-American, but who supported illegal immigrant murderers over their innocent and beautiful female victims, like Kate Steinle.
How incredibly disappointing, and wholly un-American.
For a company which tries to appeal to southern conservatives with images of being all-American this totalitarian attempt to support illegal immigrant criminals, betray law-abiding Americans, and punish free speech (especially pro-American speech by a man trying to protect women and children) is disgraceful. I will never support or associate with Nascar again, until Mr. Trump receives a full apology and publicly indicates he feels he was made whole again.
Don’t think conservative America will ever forget this.
Camping World [Link to Feedback page]
As a lifelong outdoorsman, RV owner, and conservative American I was disappointed to see Camping World take part in the recent Stalinist trend to purge dissenting opinions from our dialog. Camping is a pastime particularly enjoyed by those of patriotic nature who value freedom, so it is ironic that a company such as yours should take the side of the Speech Nazi’s, and try to suppress any dissent in our nation while trying to protect law-breaking illegal immigrants such as the recent murderer of Kate Steinle. This is not only un-American and disloyal to our citizens, it violates the very principles of freedom that our republic is supposed to embody. If Autistics were to fall out of favor would you seek to bully them into silence as well?
In short, because of this shameful behavior, I, and millions of other conservatives will find another store to buy our camping gear from. We will not forget.
NBC [Link to comment page]
I have long enjoyed NBC TV, specifically such shows as the evening news, Grim, The Apprentice, Dateline, and Hannibal. I even promoted episodes of Hannibal, Dateline, and The Apprentice on a conservative blog. I will now no longer watch NBC because of it’s activities with respect to Donald Trump. Once a network intercedes within the pubic debate, to silence speech it disagrees with, and demonize people for the political messages they deliver, it reveals the presence of Speech Nazis within its ranks. At that point, their news cannot be trusted, and their shows cannot morally be rewarded with viewers. Even worse, NBC has shown that it will be loyal to illegal foreigners who murder innocent girls like Kate Steinle, before it will support honest American citizens who oppose criminality. That is unacceptable.
I promise I will not forget this, and I suspect millions of other Conservatives and Donald Trump fans will not either.
I’m actually grateful Hannibal deteriorated into some unintelligible artsy piece of shit. If it was still as good as the first season, that would hurt.
[…] Donald Trump, Cognitive Realignment, and the Panic of the Speech Nazis […]
Of course you’re right on point, and you’re doing good work, but might you consider using “speech commissars” instead of “speech nazis”? It is, after all, the left that doesn’t believe in free speech, not the right (no matter how many times we’ve been lied to about it).
Mr. Bahn, I guess you swallowed the Stalinist lie that the Nazis were right wing. They were just as left wing as the commies.
