Did Donald Trump Release Classified Data To Russia?

President Donald Trump disclosed highly classified information to Russia’s foreign minister about a planned Islamic State operation, two U.S. officials said on Monday, plunging the White House into another controversy just months into Trump’s short tenure in office.

The intelligence, shared at a meeting last week with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak, was supplied by a U.S. ally in the fight against the militant group, both officials with knowledge of the situation said.

The White House declared the allegations, first reported by the Washington Post, incorrect.

“The story that came out tonight as reported is false,” H.R. McMaster, Trump’s national security adviser, told reporters at the White House, adding that the leaders reviewed a range of common threats including to civil aviation.

Personally, these stories are only redoubling my hatred and contempt for the media, and solidifying my support for Trump. My bet would be, that is what is happening across the board, as our partisanship only grows and cements itself. Given Trump won the Presidency once, and all of that support voted for him believing the media was an enemy, he will now have all that support set in stone.

Supposedly the information was the threat by ISIS to put explosives in laptop computers to bomb a plane. It was all over the news six months ago, but if it can be used to attack the President, then the media will act as if it is new today.

But it raises an interesting question. Who runs this country? If the President had actually released data to Russia which would upset our foreign allies and cause them to stop sharing intelligence with us, why was this immediately shared with the nation which gave it to us (Israel?), and then why was it handed to the media? Suppose that would cause all of our allies to stop giving us intel? Why wouldn’t we conceal the release of it, to protect the United State’s ability to gather as much intelligence as possible in the future?

Who authorized this low level staffer to notify Israel, and did they seek the approval of our ostensible leader, Donald Trump? Or did this staffer act unilaterally, threatening the US’s national security and ability to gather intelligence in the future?

I have to wonder if this was another plumbing operation to close up leaks to Israel and the WaPo. President Trump releases something that walks the line between appropriate and not appropriate, knowing the meeting summary would pass along a specific person’s desk, then he waits to see if the information leaks.

Otherwise, we have low level intel staffers sacrificing the national security of the United States unilaterally on behalf of foreign powers without consulting with the elected leadership of our nation. Personally I find that far more disturbing than the release of material that we all heard about on the news eight months ago.
