So a cop who is on for 20 years has to buy at least 3 vests for himself over his career, and the department won’t issue them? And it is not even like it is patrolling in Beverly Hills. It’s Chicago, home of Second City Cop, who noted that they had their first homicide just two hours into the new year and by 6 AM Jan 1 shootings of people were already into double digits for the year.
I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised with Rahm Emmanuel running things, and an economic collapse fast approaching. It is probably surprising they have the money to give them guns.

Working the grave yard shift and being a father of two young girls, Zack always had energy during the day to play and take his girls to the park.
Zack was always there for his friends. Giving scriptural advice to friends in need of advice, or offering up his free time to help his buddies with home projects. Zack was selfless and a true friend to anyone that knew him.
Today 12/31/2017, Zack was killed while responding to a domestic dispute at 5am. Zack leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.

We had this “complaint” where i live also a few years back. If you pay 500 Bucks for a class 1 bodyarmor you overpaid. But its taxpayers money anyway so who cares.

As law enforcement budgets saw reduction during democrat administrations, did police union leaders recognize this as a potential problem for their members?
Are diploma requirements for higher agency promotions intended to filter out field effective officers from organizational leadership?
BP vests are expensive, no doubt about it. As the kevlar fibers age the strength can drop too- so the vests need to be replaced regularly, and keep them away from heat. There are alternatives of course, but they are even more expensive- but lasting much longer, will save money over time.
