California To Subsidize Drug Dealers

In California, a criminal record can prevent you from obtaining a liquor license but give you a leg up in obtaining a permit to deal dope. What gives?

It’s all part of an effort in the Golden State to help more minorities become “marijuana entrepreneurs.” On New Year’s Day, California became the ninth state to legalize cannabis for recreational use, but officials are worried that not enough blacks will qualify for the permits needed to sell weed legally. To address this “problem,” Los Angeles, Oakland and other cities have created “equity programs” that offer no-interest loans and other perks to people who live in poor black neighborhoods and have been convicted of drug crimes.

Those unlucky enough not to be Persons of Politically Preferred Pigmentation will find it harder to get a permit to sell marijuana.

If you’re a white applicant, you can improve your own chances of receiving a permit by “incubating” an equity [i.e., black] applicant, which means making him a 50% partner in the business or giving him floor space in your establishment, rent-free…

The progressives who dreamed this up sold it as a way to compensate blacks, who have been disproportionately affected by the war on drugs.

So once again leftists seek out criminals, and try to win their favor.

It is interesting to me. Your amygdala produces the emotions that provoke conflict, such as with enemies. So take away the amygdala, and you would think you would simply become neutral and uncaring about enemies. Yet what do we see here? Atrophy the amygdala, and you actually get the exact opposite to a provoked conflict. You get a Stockholm-Syndrome-like desire to appease and curry favor with hostiles, by using money and protection to woo them.

It is interesting because it is not the only place we see this phenomenon. If you look at healthy rats, their functional amygdalae will produce fear in the face of both cats, and the smell of cat urine. But infect the rats with the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii, and once T. gondii preferentially creates its cysts in the rat’s amygdala and turn it into swiss cheese, the rats don’t just lose their fear of cats and the smell of cat urine. They actually become attracted to it.

It is as if the brain itself, minus the amygdala, has some sort of ingrained stimulus bias, kind of like how a newborn baby’s eyes will naturally be attracted to any motion, even though their visual cortex is undeveloped and they probably can’t actually “see” whatever they are looking at. It is probably innate to our programming, designed to produce a constant forward movement into the world, adjusted only by the aversive stimulus of the amygdala. The brain just wants stimulus and is naturally driven to seek it out, but the amygdala acts as the brakes whenever it detects a negative stimulus it recognizes from the past. I suspect that is a more important concept for understanding cognitive processes than it would appear on its face. (Imagine watching the Alien Motherships gently floating over your city, and preparing to land. You would tend to think it was bad, but wouldn’t you also want to hang around and see what was going to come out when they landed?)

So that may be a cognitive tendency it would be wise to recognize, and perhaps at times, consciously temper. Cuckservatives with limited exposure to excessively vibrant shithole savages, take note.

That ability of the amygdala to perceive the negative and drive an avoidance of it is the only thing keeping the human machine from being like the moth flying into the flame. Take away that amygdala, and that brain is going straight for the most shocking thing it sees. And it just so happens that is usually the most horrific thing possible.
