If you believe that an aging, secularized, heretofore-mostly-homogeneous society is likely to peacefully absorb a migration of that size and scale of cultural difference, then you have a bright future as a spokesman for the current German government.
You’re also a fool. Such a transformation promises increasing polarization among natives and new arrivals alike. It threatens not just a spike in terrorism but a rebirth of 1930s-style political violence…
This need not happen. But prudence requires doing everything possible to prevent it. That means closing Germany’s borders to new arrivals for the time being. It means beginning an orderly deportation process for able-bodied young men. It means giving up the fond illusion that Germany’s past sins can be absolved with a reckless humanitarianism in the present.
It means that Angela Merkel must go — so that her country, and the continent it bestrides, can avoid paying too high a price for her high-minded folly.
Now things are so bad that NYT leftists are backing Donald Trump’s immigration plans. Doubtless, the Cuckservative elites gasped in horror at the outrageously xenophobic writings of Ross Douthat in the New York Times. Republican establishment leaders are making New York Times liberals look like rock-ribbed conservatives. How far Trump, and the insanity of the times, has taken us.
Smart rabbits sense what is in the air, and the really smart ones can see that more rabbitism may very well trigger the death of all rabbits in a fiery cataclysm.
I’ve sometimes wondered if the wisdom of r/K eventually catches on, whether it could make the r-strategists realize that so many of their urges are self destructive for the wealth, safety, and peace they need. But then I realized that if I wanted to make the world more K, I would collapse the US economic system, blow all of our money on social programs to impoverish everyone, import more Muslims and foreigners in large numbers, free criminals, disarm the police, foment violence between different groups of K-strategists, destroy American success, and just generally engender chaos.
Given the power to accomplish all that, I couldn’t do it, even as rabbits ran wild and the degeneracy was intolerable. I can’t imagine doing anything but striving to create the very conditions of ease and safety for all, which inevitably facilitate the rise of the r-strategy.
And yet, Douthat made the jump. Maybe our hopes must rest on the fact that K-strategists have morals, and so can’t tolerate destroying the good, or aiding evil. Some r-strategists, motivated more by fear than morals, are more flexible, and thus can strive for good if it is death and horror that is stalking them.
I doubt it will ever be enough to reverse the tides of r/K on this turn of the cycle, but perhaps within that quirk lies the seeds of a more steadily K-selected model of a future mankind someday.
The Apocalypse is coming, but maybe it doesn’t have to.
