Sofia (AFP) – An Afghan migrant was shot by Bulgarian border guards trying to cross into the country from Turkey and died on his way to hospital, the interior ministry said.
“A big group of illegal migrants attempted to enter Bulgaria from Turkey. One man suffered a gunshot wound in the incident and died on the way to hospital,” an interior ministry spokeswoman told AFP.
If there is little consequence for this (and in Bulgaria, home of the umbrella gun assassins, there probably won’t be), then you will see more of this. Killing in a dangerous situation is a meeting of two amygdala pressures – the drive to survive, and the drive to avoid the negative consequences of killing. One force must win. If an individual pulls the trigger, and assuages the fear of death while avoiding negative consequences, they will kill again if placed in a dangerous circumstance – and they will do so quicker and easier.
That the military is overwhelmingly K, will only speed the spread of the killing, once it begins – and the real collapse hasn’t even begun. If it occurs enough, many who do it may even look forward to the cycle of angst, irritation, anger, and relief.
