I appreciate that you have little time to get into all of the stories in your new briefs, but the Macron story made me laugh and yes it was an innocent mistake. Even a brief perusal of the story showed that he was speaking in English, obviously not his native language, and tried to translate delicieux and said delicious instead of delightful. Both words are accurate but the media had more fun with the embarrassing one.
A bit like my sister embarrassed herself mixing up conservatif and preservatif. The first one being the French word for a preservative, the other one, which was the wrong one she used thinking of it as a literal translation, being a condom! And that was at Sunday lunch at her French boyfriend’s parents house meeting them for the first time.

Probably. But I have seen a native English speaker who I’d think has a 50:50 chance of at least being aware of Cabal on the TV use the exact same usage two or three years back (which I noted as strange at the time), and I recently recall another high ranking public figure who wasn’t translating use it the same way, as a synonym for wonderful. I can’t remember the name, but it stuck with me, because I wondered if it signified some sort of synesthesic psychology that perceived emotional preference things more precisely in terms of disgust/delicious. Macron using it made me wonder if it might be a product of being in that upper tier environment, or if somebody they all worshipped, but who we don’t even know used it, and they picked it up through mimicry, or something.
Seeing the picture of Mrs Turnbull, I rather doubt Macron was using our definition of ‘delicious’. Unless he’s into Man Jaw, which given him being Cabal, might be the case. She looks kind of Mrs Doubtfire.
You may well be right. Wonder what Macron said about Melania then. If any lady could be called delicious, I’m sure a lot of men would say she is and delightful too!
