Leftist SJW Stupidity – Gender Equal Snow Clearing In Sweden

Think you know the bounds of leftist SJW stupidity?

Stockholm’s “gender-equal” snow-clearing policy is not to blame for the traffic chaos which has engulfed the Swedish capital, the architect of the policy has claimed.

“Gender-equal snow cleaning is not to blame here,” Daniel Helldén, the city’s Green Party transport head told the Expressen newspaper, stressing that the policy, which prioritizes cleaning pavements and cycle lanes over roads, did not even appear to have even been followed…

Stockholm’s municipal government, a coalition of the Social Democrats and the Green Party, brought in gender equal snow cleaning last year, pledging to make moving around the city on icy winter days just as safe for women as it is for men. Men are statistically more likely to be drivers, while women are more likely to use pavements, cycle paths, and public transport…

So they left roads uncleared, while workers feverishly cleared sidewalks and bike paths – in the winter.

This highlights what I would call the amygdala window. Amygdalae have a window of irritation levels which they will respond to. Stimuli below the window will be deemed too inconsequential to focus on. Stimuli over the window will be so stimulating they cannot be handled, and they will be dealt with using cognitive hacks to shut off the stimulation.

I saw this myself once. I received a piece of bad news from a professional regarding something which I was not prepared to deal with. My initial response was to question the evidence, trying to figure out how it could have been misread, or misinterpreted, or that it was a unique case which would not have what was the common outcome.

In retrospect the problem had narrow paths to a solution, but I spent about a day and a half trying to find reasons to invalidate the finding, and lost that time. I now recognize that was the first stage in grieving, namely denial. If something hits your amygdala’s weak spot, your amygdala will use every tool at its disposal to remove the stimulus, and the first thing it may go to is an attempt to invalidate the incoming data and prove it erroneous. Taken to an extreme, that questioning of data can easily transition from trying to be certain, to ignoring reality and turning to outright denial.

Sweden is an interesting case, because on one hand, they are importing rapists and killers, enduring attacks on women daily, and even seeing children sexually abused. But all of those are so affecting to rabbit amygdalae that they will provoke full on denial and ignorance. Mention it to a leftist, and they will refuse to even discuss it, as if the attacks are unworthy of mention. In other words, conflict stimuli are flying well over the upper bounds of their lowered amygdala window, so their leftist brains refuse to acknowledge them.

At the bottom end of the lowered amygdala window are amygdalae which fire off on stimuli so stupid that they end up worried that if they plow the streets first, it is unfair to women, because more men drive than women. That infinitesimal irritation is within the lower end of their amygdala window, so they are caring about it fervently, even as it screws up their streets, and probably prevents emergency services from responding to medical and criminal emergencies.

I think an understanding of the specific amygdala window of a target audience is probably quite important to using the amygdala model to manipulate their perceptions and drives.

The problem today is that any real irritation is avoidable, so amygdalae are atrophying, and amygdala windows are lowering. When the collapse goes down, real irritation will force itself into the leftist consciousness, at which point leftists will learn the hard way to recalibrate their amygdala windows to focus only on what must be dealt with, and ignore the inconsequential.
