NBC execs had a plan to time the release of the Donald Trump audio to have maximum impact on both the 2nd presidential debate and the general election … sources connected with the network tell TMZ.
Multiple sources connected with NBC tell us … top network execs knew about the video long before they publicly said they did, but wanted to hold it because it was too early in the election. The sources say many NBC execs have open disdain for Trump and their plan was to roll out the tape 48 hours before the debate so it would dominate the news cycle leading up to the face-off…
We’re told the plan was to edit the tape to keep the focus on Trump and not Billy. “Access Hollywood” we’re told was not going to air the portion where Trump and Billy got off the bus and Billy goaded Trump and the soap star to hug. Our sources say the tape was going to be “sanitized” to protect Billy as much as possible.
Case in point … after The Washington Post ran the story, ‘Access’ aired their footage and cut out the parts where Billy looked worse — saying things like, “Jeez! Your girl’s hot as s*** in the purple!”
We’ve told you the plan got derailed by Hurricane Matthew. Execs decided the wall-to-wall coverage of the storm would mess up the plan to dominate the news with the Trump tape, so they were going to hold it until Monday. It didn’t sit well with some staffers who wanted it out pre-debate, so it was leaked to the Washington Post.
If the media can’t give unequal coverage to candidates to affect the election, how can they time the release of material to adversely affect the electoral prospects of a candidate? It would seem to arguably be under the same umbrella of unfair use of media/airtime access.
It seems to me this is an area ripe for Trump to write copious rules and regulations, to tie the mainstream media down much as Obama tied down industry, as well as direct enforcement authorities act punitively once he takes office.
Of course the big problem is media conglomeration. Mergers and joint marketing agreements have allowed a few powerful minorities to take control of the majority of the nation’s media sources. When Trump gets in he should take a page from Teddy Roosevelt, and become a Media Trustbuster, eliminating the media monopolies, and breaking up all of the mainstream media into a plethora of small outlets to foster competition, with a diverse range of opinions and perspectives.
Increasingly the more the left acts out against him, the more of a free hand Trump’s supporters are going to give him to punish all of his enemies, when he takes office.
If you want to trigger leftists, just get that message out to them.
[…] NBC Purposely Timed Trump Tape Release […]
I’d heard(radio) that NBC was going to have the story ready for the day of the debate, but that someone at WP scoped them and released it Friday.
I’d seen(web article) a suggestion that Trump got a heads up about it and said “have it go early” to his source in NBC. That gave him 2 days to work out a reply.
At this point with the NYT messaging, I’m thinking that active harasser of women is more fearful than most of the stuff about Hillary (see Scott Adams blog for the Era of women). HOWEVER Hillary locking up and falling over in debate, now THAT will break her permanently Then it will be a matter of what do the Dems do about that.
(((few powerful minorities…))) How about one?
This is what leftists don’t understand: this ain’t their father’s right-wing anymore. Trump is going to enter the presidency with a “what was good for the goose is good for the gander” view of all that power Obama has gathered into the office, and use it against them. And we will cheer him on.
The era of the “play nice” right is over. And the left can thank themselves for that change.
This.
Of course they did, why would anyone with a clue think otherwise.
I am all in favor of breaking up the huge media corporations. The airwaves are a common space shared by Americans and should not be monopolized by a few megacorporations. Of course I feel the same about the content carried by cable companies that have a monopoly in an area as well.
Trump needs to give the media the same deal Obama gave the coal companies: Feel free to continue spreading lies and slander, but you’ll probably go bankrupt from all the taxes and fines I’m going to make you pay.
